If you’re a person who cares about not disabling and harming other human beings, including children, you must know that nearly half of COVID cases are asymptomatic, that Covid spreads before symptoms begin, and that you have a responsibility not to harm others. That is simply humanity.

As to the what you’re risking, it’s almost every facet of your health.

Blood clots, your brain, heart attacks, strokes, organ damage, etc (the list is endless).

There’s also concern it may increase your risk of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Only time will tell.

But thanks to a failure in public health you have no idea who or what you’re risking.

Repeat covid infections are really bad for those with Long Covid.

Most people aren’t asking you mask at all times.

They ask that you mask in essential places: public transit, hospitals, doctors’ offices, pharmacies etc.

Places high risk people can’t avoid.

But if you hate wearing masks? Then advocate for indoor air quality: ventilation, filtration, etc.

And if you are Puerto Rican, we are about to enter a huge healthcare crisis. 20+ of our hospitals could be really close to bankruptcy. Less hospital beds means getting sick is even more of a luxury than it already is.

The problem with this is, as many others have pointed out in the replies, the current COVID vaccine does not prevent infection or transmission. It is still good to reduce severity, and people should get it, but until there is an actual sterilizing vaccine people should be really be masking.

Tomorrow would have been my mother's 74th birthday. She did not mask, and whoever gave COVID to her was likely unmasked, and may not have known that they had it.

She's dead, along with millions of others.

Don't rationalize preventable deaths.
