In Dublin, normal SUVs are a public threat - they block roads, impede traffic, block sight lines (being next to one at the Walkinstown roundabout is a nightmare). Mid-tier Verblen good that makes social life worse.
This is a good article, worth reading.
Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one?
The anti-smoking playbook is worth studying and learning from, and is completely applicable to oversized cars.

Nice work, Maine!
Perhaps not the biggest news on a big night, but Maine voters resoundingly rejected limiting voter rights, and resoundingly supported a gun restriction bill.

Hester Street is a fantastic film, so happy to see it getting this treatment!
Shout out to Park Circus Films and Dr. Julia Wagner for this new 4K of Joan Micklin Silver's remarkable Hester Street, one of the great underseen flicks of the 70s and a female-focused answer to the big masculine turn-of-the-century immigrant films of this period. parkcircus.com/latest/P2862...

The absolute bald-faced audacity, thriving on the belief that Ireland will never choose other than FFFG for gov't.
"While Mr Martin has pointed to these regulations as a barrier to building, the Government has still not published its own housing plan."
Just wait, they'll soon start blaming snails, and bats, and otters for the reason their cronies are no longer allowed to build on flood plains.

This is reminiscent of when the PSNI called the riots in Ballymena "racist thuggery" but the airwaves were swamped with politicians doing the "legitimate concerns" bit.
Lads, neither the Garda nor the PSNI are rabid leftists. If they're telling you to pump the brakes, you know you're out there.

Lots of reasons to boycott Spotify, but running ice ads is especially sinister. Screw them!
Reports of ICE ads on #Spotify were noted in early October. People began calling for boycotts immediately.
Now, nearly a month later Spotify is seeing major losses.
And we can do ever BETTER. 👏👏👏

Just back from a great few days in London. I absolutely love living in Dublin, but it's so nice to visit a city that you can actually move around - good, reliable public transport and proper city planning make such a huge difference to the city experience.
