I thought Jake Evans played one of his best games of the season tonight. Scored a goal and was not on the ice for an even strength goal. He was very noticeable out there. It's encouraging to see this - before tonight, he had been pretty invisible for a while.

- .23 after regulation time. That's a great recovery. Essentially analytics said that he should have been scored on 4 times and he was.

OT to come.

If that's the case, Dobson and Matheson should also be in and out of the lineup. I don't like the tendency to focus on one player's mistakes and ignoring the same mistakes by others.
This is why Xhekaj is in and out of the line up. I know you love him, but this is why.

You can't blow the zone killing a penalty. Come on, use your head.
Got to respect the blue line.

Got to respect the blue line even more killing a penalty.

Arber Xhekaj finished the game with 10:13 TOI. That's absurd for a defenseman. Obviously MSL didn't like his mistake on the 1st goal while short-handed, but to give Carrier over twice as much ice time at 22:20 is practically a crime. After all, the Sheriff did score a goal tonight!

"They had good possessions early in the game, but we didn't give them much, and then we took control of the game. 3-0, the other team had no life at that moment, and then we started doing stupid mistakes and we gave them life."

Habs coach Marty St. Louis tonight on the OT loss:

With the high flying Oilers coming to town, the Habs mediocre home record, their hellacious defense, and Monty going back between the pipes, it could get really ugly tomorrow night. I really hope I'm wrong. This team does surprise us once in a while though, so you never know!

And then the Canadiens allow a breakaway. You cannot allow odd man rushes with a two goal lead, or blow the zone with a three goal lead.

They are not comprehending this basic thing.

It's bad to allow odd man rushes ever, of course, but with the lead? Incomprehensible.

Here's a general comment, but my feeling on it overall is this: I don't know. I don't get it. And I don't know.

Beyond respecting a lead and not giving up odd man rushes, be on the right side of the puck, don't blow the zone.

But the Habs are
8th in goals for
31st in goals against

WTF.

According to @moneypuck.bsky.social the Habs have taken the 3rd most penalty minutes per 60 and are the 5th worst penalty differential in the league. Tonight was another example of that. The opposition routinely gets more power plays night in and night out.

habs outscored the rangers 4-2 at 5 on 5. stripes handed the rangers 3 goals. idk how you're supposed to win games like this. every time against this team, the refs bail them out.

After everything they let go in this game, they call that. F*ck right off.

Kapanen! Dammit!

After blowing 2 multiple goal leads, Habs escape with at least a point. Anybody's game now.
December 14, 2025 at 2:54 AM
Man, the opposition gets by Dobson so easily time and time again.
December 14, 2025 at 2:53 AM
Rangers have been running picks all night long and refs have let it all go.
44NYR runs a pick on Dobson too. It's so obvious, good lord.
December 14, 2025 at 2:52 AM
That might be the first time I've ever seen an icing after kicking the puck

Rangers have had a guy cherry picking for that long stretch pass all night long.

The last four times the NYR had pressure, the Habs had a chance to clear the zone and failed.

Each time it was a product of too cute, too soft, and not finding a forward who had already blown the zone.

This is an attitude issue for the most part.

I'm extremely disappointed that the Habs have blown 3-0 and 4-2 leads, but at the rate this game is going, I'll be somewhat relieved if they can make it to OT and at least get a point.
December 14, 2025 at 2:38 AM
Absolutely 💯. Rangers are allowed to own the zone in front of the net without consequence.
Carrick goal called back, but I'm trying to make the point everything is happening inside 5 feet of Fowler.

That means everyone is allowed to stand there, and make plays there.

Is there not enough Shea Weber here?

Who's getting hammered like Weber would do?

No one. No one pays for their presence

This had been a pretty low event 3rd period until the last couple of minutes, which included that called off goal. Habs have 1 shot this period. Rangers have 3.
