According to @moneypuck.bsky.social the Habs have taken the 3rd most penalty minutes per 60 and are the 5th worst penalty differential in the league. Tonight was another example of that. The opposition routinely gets more power plays night in and night out.

Looks like I'm not missing much. Habs getting pasted on the scoreboard, but judging by the stats they aren't playing all that badly? Expected goals are actually in favour of the Habs (which is somewhat surprising) and so is the DTW meter.

After regulation:

Habs playing well tonight, with the possible exception of Dobson and Matheson. Much better effort than last night. 1st line is playing well offensively, but not so great defensively (on for both Jets goals). The Demidov line has looked really good.

Habs played a pretty good 1st period but have nothing to show for it except being down by a goal. Expected goals were 1.664 to 1.197 in favour of the Habs. Habs couldn't finish to save their lives as Comrie was playing like Dominik Hasek.

Wow, the defending Stanley Cup Champions are in last place in the conference. Has this ever happened before at this point in the season?

You should all read the entirety of Brian's article because it's excellent as usual, but one paragraph in particular really stuck out for me:
December 3, 2025 at 3:52 AM
Way too many Habs anchoring the bottom of this chart.
December 3, 2025 at 2:21 AM
1st line is still killing it after 2 periods. Bolduc and Caufield each with 1G 1A.

The top 6 forwards had a tremendous 1st period (but still didn't generate a lot of shots). The numbers for the bottom 6 weren't great but as long as they keep things clean, it should be okay.

Habs came alive in the last 5 minutes, but it was still a period dominated by Vegas. Monty came up huge and the Habs leveraged their insane shooting percentage this season.

Good chances for the Habs to start this 2nd period, but they gotta start hitting the net!

He did play 4 games for us to start his career.

Veleno leading the way tonight? Ok then 🤔
November 23, 2025 at 2:59 AM
It's been a hella long time since I seen this dial so far in the Habs favour.
November 23, 2025 at 1:58 AM
Who would have ever thought that we would be pining to get Jake Allen back?
November 22, 2025 at 6:58 PM
Here's a sobering stat - Habs have the 3rd fewest regulation wins in the entire conference with 5. Only Buffalo and Philly have fewer with 4. All those OT wins lulled me into thinking the Habs were better than they probably are.
November 18, 2025 at 1:38 AM
Not a good period for the newly formed top line.
November 18, 2025 at 1:28 AM
So often the case this season - a big save, but then shortly thereafter a puck finds its way in that you don't expect to go in. Once again, Monty (so far) is in the negative GSAE. It doesn't help that his team is not giving him any goal support whatsoever during this slump.
November 16, 2025 at 1:24 AM
Coming into tonight:

Dobes
GAA: 2.25
Save %: .920
GSAE: 6.4

Monty
GAA: 3.46
Save %: .864
GSAE: -6.6

Monty's stats get worse after tonight.

Dobes is top 10 in the league. Monty is bottom 5.

These stat lines are mirror opposites.

How can you not give Dobes the majority of games going forward?

Seriously now? Joel Edmundson has the hardest shot taken so far this season? 🤯

It appears that the next generation of elite NHL scorers have arrived. 3 of the top 4 are 20 yrs old or younger.
