Not everything he said was a contradiction, even though he never met Jesus, he did meet some of the apostles. There's also the fact that Paul was living in a different time, things were much more fractured by them, and a lot of what he says was to correct the behaviors of the churches at the time

It provides context and additional materials for what it was like before Jesus came for the first time. Some of it is prophecies of what Jesus would come to fulfill, some of it provides the context to what led to Jesus needing to sacrifice his life for everyone's forgiveness.

Even Paul reiterates that we are no longer under the old laws because Jesus came to fulfill and built a new foundation from it.
