Why stop at 50?
The monthly payments on a 3,000 year mortgage are very manageable.
i wish i could have been in the room when they were brainstorming how to solve the housing crisis and someone raised their hand and said "what about 50 year mortgages?"

💯
Deporting millions of undocumented immigrants who have built lives in America (a) is morally indefensible, and (b) will probably make the housing shortage *worse* because so much of the construction workforce is undocumented.
everyone keeps dancing around it but JD Vance keeps trotting out the “immigrants are taking our housing“ because it’s a nativist blood libel he’s engineering alongside eg “they eat our pets” but, more specifically, it is to legitimize the dispossession, en masse, of an entire sub-population.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is today.
The same is true for zoning reform.
If a previous council had updated zoning to allow more building years ago, the increased assessed value could reduce the need to raise taxes now, but that didn’t happen and we can’t change the past. We can work towards a better future by updating our zoning as soon as possible though.
