The original post has been deleted or I've been blocked, so my recreation of the greatest political compass of all time.

presume I'm not the first person to say this but real cool that actual human adults can't get up to regular, legal human adult stuff online anymore but somehow the robots doing porn will be fine

real cool!

Protein is probably the most studied OTC supplement related to health & fitness - feels like a big thing to have missed previously! I'll be very curious to see if this article from Consumer Reports is replicated by academic researchers.
Protein Powders and Shakes Contain High Levels of Lead - Consumer Reports
CR tests of 23 popular protein powders and shakes found that most contain high levels of lead.

If you’re a man in the room and a public official says this about your female colleague, you don’t continue as if nothing happened.

Trump ignores a question from a woman reporter but says, "I just like to watch her talk. Good job. Thank you darling."

Today just felt like the chill could reach into your bones so...not really no!

at a Frieze private view and got offered a shot of espresso and a shot of mezcal? turned the waitress down but unsure they realised what they nearly unleashed here, pretty sure that "giving me a shot of espresso and a shot of mezcal then setting me loose" is mentioned in the Geneva Convention

it's extremely autumn in London today isn't it, had been somewhat autumn until now but today the whole season's really smacking us around the face

spent a portion of summer.....I want to say 2014? reading Freedom and listening to Lana Del Rey and still think of those weeks as one of the peaks of my millennial existence

wrong: Jonathan Franzen has published one (1) truly great novel - Freedom - but the rest of his output can be safely ignored

Jonathan Franzen is like somebody trained an LLM to write a pretentious American middle-aged dude novel and then asked it to be more misogynistic.

(I do not count Annie Ernaux in this, Annie Ernaux is obviously in a category of her own and she knows what she's doing)

probably less "unhinged" and more "will lose me some friends" but I think the contemporary lit fic trend of very short pared down sentences is meant to seem clever and pretentious when it just makes people with no attention span/will to properly pay attention feel like they're reading Real Books

The rikishi are taking-in the town and doing what we all do when in London.
Seeing the sights, admiring the parks, shopping on High Street, taking tea at Fortnum's, using the olde phonebox, eating Chinese, and having a terrific time.

sometimes - it has to be very occasional, to keep its impact - I'll hate a book so much that once I'm done with it/have given up halfway through, I'll just throw it in the bin so no one has to suffer like I did, it's a real joy

One of the posts that got me flamed back in the old place was when I said I didn’t fetishise books as objects and wasn’t bothered if their owners wanted to rip them in half to make their baggage lighter or chuck them in the recycling once they’ve read them or whatever. Some people went ballistic
nick-pettigrew.bsky.social
The veneration of Books As Objects misses the point entirely. If you're reading a book, turn the corners down, break the spine, spill soup on it. It's your book, go nuts. A pristine, unread book is a tragedy in a way that a beloved, much-read book that looks like the dog's been at it could never be.

Publishers should be invested in promoting the books they publish.

Can I recommend spending multiple months entirely alone in a flat and not being allowed to leave said flat?*

*I would not in fact recommend this

so my excuse is that I got SO bored doing lockdown alone that I ended up creating a massive Drive folder of basically any picture of me and/or a loved one worth saving that was findable on the internet, with keywords and years and everything, and I'm very glad I did it!

Keiran Culkin winning award after award after award while openly being like "yeah I read my lines for the first time like five minutes before going on set" was, I regret to say, such a good recurring bit of Succession, when Jeremy Strong was busy being Like That
