If you're in the Bay and feeling paralyzed in the face of the oncoming ICE raids, here's a link to a stellar mobilization webinar that ran yesterday. It's incredibly grounding, practical & tactical, and will give you the guidance and resources to do what you can, where you can.

It's a good time to reup this thread.

Our neighbors are going to be in greater need than ever very soon, if they aren't already, in which case they'll be in even greater-greater need.

If you're in a position to donate stuff, some thoughts on best practices for donations:
🧵Today I gathered a bunch of books that I'm finally admitting I won't read + books I've read but know I won't read/reference again; I'll be donating to a community library suggested by a friend who's the ED of a big anti-hunger org/food pantry in the area.

SOME GUIDELINES FOR DONATING ACTUAL STUFF:

And if you donate, please donate money (if you can) - food banks get a LOT more bang for your buck.

As my friend the ED of a food pantry says: Every $1 you give can provide as many as 3 meals.
And donate/volunteer at food banks now.
Remember, as SNAP is about to end, the standing rule remains firm:

If you see someone stealing diapers or formula no you didn't.

Each county in the Bay Area has its own hotline for reporting and verifying ICE activity. In Alameda County, it's ACILEP at (510) 241-4011, in San Francisco, it's Rapid Response at 415-200-1548.

For other counties see immigrants.sf.gov/help/rapid-r...
If you live in San Francisco, today is a good day to familiarize yourself with the San Francisco Rapid Response Network, which has a 24-hour hotline for reporting ICE raids, actually verifies those raid reports, and does attorney activation: sfilen.org/resources/sf...

Please, please donate to all the food banks in your area, as much as you can. Money helps them the most tbh, but if all else fails, canned and dry goods that are not expired can help, too.
Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.
Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

If you plan on going to any protests, please, please, PLEASE implement some personal digital security protocols beforehand and encourage others to do the same.

I recommend these checklists (next few posts in thread):
We are dealing with a combination of mass surveillance and fascism that necessitates caution. Exposure of your data puts more than just you at risk.

Please be smart, friends! We keep us safe.

They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

"The Media School directed us to print no news in the paper... nothing but information about homecoming — no other news at all, and particularly no traditional front page news coverage."
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

A handful of journalists rebel against a hedge fund that is gutting newspapers nationwide.
