That was the cool thing about the C64 (and of course other machines) .. is that you could, right out of the box, start doing/creating things ... the first thing I did was type in this LONG program from one of the great magazines that catered to the C64 back then. What a way to learn!

And it would have felt by then like anyone and everyone with a microcomputer and learned programming in mid-80s Britain could strike it rich. A tempting prospect to those growing up in declining industrial cities.

Oh dear! The last I used Compuserve -- it was TEXT only on a 300 baud modem via Tymnet .. and Telenet if I recall correctly.

Falcon by Spectrum Holobyte was a favorite game on the Amiga. Before there were LAN parties, I'd have two computers joined together via a cross-over serial port to play head-to-head.

You'd start out at like 10,000 feet heading toward each other .. and if you made it past that - the dog fight began!
