Despite these superficial differences, Gadot and Perez are both avatars of the colony's soft power within culture. Gadot helps project Israeli futurity and permanence within mass culture: a tough, militaristic Sabra, a frontier guardsman of White Western hegemony. Perez performs a parallel role within the queer underground- soothing us with an image of the settler, of "Tel Aviv', as enlightened and progressive.
Both profit from and depend on the settler occupation of Palestine. Both abhor and oppose actual Palestinian resistance. Perez is the gentrified side of the same genocidal coin.

We urge Origins, FOLD, Body Movements, Basement and all other venues and collectives to cease platforming DJs from LAUNDRETTE until they take full accountability for their longstanding normalization of 'Israel' and adhere to the tenets of Al Thawabet. And we call on ravers and DJs to exercise pressure on these venues. Collectively, we are powerful. There are many ways we can do this.

Directly challenge club owners and promoters who are booking the Laundrette collective. Refuse to play on line ups with these DJs. Unfollow them on social media. If they are playing at the function, don't go. Tell others not to go. And stop going to venues which celebrate artists complicit in the genocide.

He served seven years in the Navy as an electronics officer on a missile ship. At the same time, he studied for a multi-disciplinary bachelor's degree at the University of Haifa. "At that time, I would listen to a lot of indie
electronic music - 'The Knife,' 'The Postal Service,' Kate Bush, sad ballads by Joni Mitchell. I would put on headphones on the bus on the way to the army and escape to the music. It kept me going."

A little more detail on Roi Perez' time in the IDF Navy, which he discussed in an interview with Haaretz in 2016.1
Based on the timeline he provided, during his time working on an IDF missile ship (~2006-2013):
• "The Israeli navy regularly shot at Palestinian fishing boats that sailed more than two nautical miles from the coast, prohibiting access to some 85 percent of Gaza's maritime area".2
● They also boarded a freedom flotilla ship trying to break the siege of Gaza, where "Nine Turkish men on board Mavi Marmara were shot a total of 30 times" at close range.3
● He was most likely involved in Operation Cast Lead, where in 2008-2009 the Navy missile ships that he worked on shelled Gaza from offshore. During this operation, 1,400 Palestinians were killed, most of them civilians."

Where is the distinction between the electrician that repairs a missile launcher and the person who presses the trigger? For four years after Operation Cast Lead, a brutal war on a captive population, Roi still remained in the Navy, while he began his career as a DJ spinning records in Tel Aviv.
To play the victim card and say he grew up 'under' occupation, without acknowledging the most glaringly obvious detail - the fact he served in the occupation army - shows he is not to be trusted when he claims he is pro-Palestinian. There can be no redemption without honesty about the harms that have been done.
