Over 300 Native people have been evacuated to Anchorage (after many more evac'd to Bethel) from Alaskan villages destroyed by #tyhphoonHalong & bc the impacted area is already getting little daylight & soon freezing, they won't be able to even go back for construction at all until at least March.

This Indigenous Peoples Day please speak up: another typhoon sweeping away homes of Alaska's Natives, who, during settlement (statehood: 1948) were forced to end ways of life (like my Grandma's) involving mobility across regions & stuck them in flood-prone/unstable villages with housing deficits.

I'll be trying to keep track of needs in Alaska that folks outside Alaska can help with over the winter & in the spring whenever anyone is able to return to even try to address the damage.

Apply pressure re: missing funding as well as projects like Ambler Road & other environmental exploitation

Not only are the Young Republicans in question *not* 'kids', but also, as they *should* have developed or nearly developed pre-frontal cortexes, they knew that what they were saying was hateful and violent. The only reason they're clumsily trying to change course is because they got caught.

There's a lot to be said (and has been said) about how young white men and women are immediately given grace for any misdeeds on account of their "youth", while people of colour, particularly Black and Brown youth, are immediately coded as men no matter their age, and therefore dangerous.

Fortunately, the kids were released almost immediately, but they were obviously and understandably traumatized. Of course we sued, and the landlord defended her actions by saying the kids were punks and thugs and "probably gang members."

A few years ago, I represented a family of immigrants from a North African country. They were incredibly sweet people, the kind who kept offering you food whenever you went over just in case you got hungry in the last five minutes. Truly, they were some of my favorite clients ever.
