new op-ed on fortune: as an early diversity in tech activist, i reflect on dei in an era where doing dei work or merely voicing support for equity and inclusion can be cause for being fired, harassed, and doxxed.

'DEI' might be a blip in history—but the value of diversity and inclusion will persist
With diversity, equity, and inclusion under attack, those already in the room should stay there, writes Tracy Chou.

I think about this in how the guy who ran MySpace sold his company and then traveled the world doing photography, while the guy who runs Facebook never let it go and has gone out of his way to destroy democracy in order to gain more power.
The desperate need to accumulate more and more at the cost of everyone else’s wellbeing should be classified as a mental disorder, and I will absolutely die on this hill.
Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."

This remains the funniest way to hear about an internet outage, though.

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

My first thought was “wow I hope this guy didn’t give out his name because he could absolutely be charged” and yup, he is correct to stay anonymous.

This man’s account is shocking. His neighbors’ situation is shocking. The entire Chicago raid is shocking.

the city of los angeles burned in january in part because of a man who couldn’t stop generating images of burning cities on ChatGPT, and then after he lit the fire he asked if the fire he started was his fault

Nice post you got there, it'd be a shame if I deliberately missed your point so I could be tedious about it

On X I used data to show London does not have the highest crime rate in the world.

10 mins later a right winger linked to my book.

10 mins after that I got 40 1-star reviews from unverified accounts (previously 4.9 star avg). Fair play to Amazon - they removed them all.

But that's how it works.

i don’t think people on bluesky understand the severity of this situation.

i woke up to literally hundreds of texts from friends and family thinking about either moving back home to india or applying to other countries for jobs. this includes me.
Those on an H1B cannot return to the US from tomorrow (Sunday) unless paying $100K. This is an out-of-the blue presidential action. We’ll see software engineers stranded abroad.

One easy to predict outcome: those on US visas will travel less… for work, for conferences etc.

Still incredible which one of these guys is viewed by the state as reacting inappropriately.

NYT attorney David McCraw told Trump lawyers before they sued that their legal claims amounted to "a litany of personal complaints" about the NYT premised on "the deeply troubling notion that anyone who dares to report unfavorable facts about a presidential candidate is engaged in "sabotage"

This is an excellent list of tips. One thing I also do: I use @blockpartyapp.com which walks you through your social media settings to make them safer. I have found it easy to use & helpful. there are lot of settings on a lot of platforms and it’s hard to keep track of them all.
Right, so this is ol’boy’s real/regular email address, not a burner—he’s written Google Maps reviews with it three years ago. That means he’s used it for lots of other things too.

Which means if Elizabeth wanted to track this guy down it would be piss easy
