As we warned in an @openmarkets.bsky.social report earlier this year, our dependence on a handful of US tech giants for essential cloud infrastructure isn’t just a competition problem, it’s a serious threat to national security & societal stability.

How many more outages before we get the message?
there’s a major AWS outage going on right now that’s taken down Fortnite, Alexa, Snapchat, Perplexity, Roblox, and lots more of the internet. US-EAST-1 is down and impacting a lot of services that rely on AWS www.theverge.com/news/802486/...

Trumponomics isn't just hurting farmers and universities:
From Reuters:
Bankruptcies of automotive-related companies First Brands and Tricolor, along with potential losses at banks and investment funds, are raising new concerns about hidden risks in parts of the credit market...

As soon as rain started clearing, Border Patrol began terrorizing Mount Prospect and Rolling Meadows
Never been more thankful for gloom and rain (ICE is quiet right now)
That’s unfair to pigs.
I should be used to it by now, but it's really weird to live in a country run by a gross pig

One of my least rational beliefs is that if you pull off a heist without hurting anyone or getting caught within a day, that's your stuff fair and square.
Honestly that’s kind of how I feel about people who drive SUVs or overly huge pickup trucks too.
Having those overly bright LED headlights is a sign you are a sociopath
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

If you don’t know what Femi (or Mayor Johnson) is referencing here, check out Black Reconstruction in America by W.E.B. DuBois.

It’ll change how you see the Civil War, and particularly the role of enslaved Black people.

So we can agree, finally, that opposing authoritarianism directly, on its own terms, for what it is, is politically powerful?

I'd say this IS the "kitchen-table" issue, given that people sat around their kitchen tables to make signs, and then showed up in public in truly historic numbers.
This wins the internet today

It's less than 24 hours after 5-8 million Americans marched against a president who called them domestic terrorists, and there is zero reference to it on the current NYT home page, except for a Bouie op/ed that came out several days earlier.

It’s just wild how this short Onion piece is more accurate and insightful than most news coverage over the past two years.

I think this is the right comparison to make, and it’s basically a man bites dog / dog bites man scenario. These legacy papers don’t think liberal protests are a surprise, so the coverage isn’t given priority
I am remembering how the Tea Party protests in the Obama administration (2009-2010) were covered and thinking about how that coverage compares to the No Kings protests. #contentiousky

Nominal wage growth for the bottom quartile is below late 2010’s levels while core inflation and interest rates are higher — it’s probably the worst time for that cohort since at least the early 2010’s:

The record protests are the 6th headline down on the NYT mobile app.
HOLD UP. George Santos is the lead story on the @nytimes.com website on Saturday night? Not the millions of Americans protesting Donald Trump today at 2,700 events in all 50 states? Come on.

Protesters aren't the rioters. The cops are.
Los Angeles, CA -

Absolute chaos resulting from LAPD charge using batons, horse mounted units, “less lethal” projectiles. Protesters going in every direction. LAPD themselves don’t seem to know where protesters or press are supposed to be.
