Alright, I'm trying to make more of an effort to use Bluesky these days because Twitter's just become a cesspool. So here's my "Media I've Consumed in 2025" thread. Enjoy seeing what movies, shows, anime, games, manga, books, etc I partake in for the coming year!

Also, the Hatchet films take place in the same universe as the obscure 2010 "stuck on a ski lift" horror movie Frozen.

I watched HATCHET II (2010). Not particularly great or anything but I liked Tony Todd having a much larger role in this one compared to the original and I like Danielle Harris. The practical effects on the gory kills were also well done. I'll probably watch Hatchet III soon lol.

Whenever I see shit like that I can only think about the voice actor Ai Takabe, who was caught with a tiny amount of cocaine which killed her career to this day back in 2015. She's done nothing since. Meanwhile you see this shit happen.

First game to come to mind for me is Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time. That game is just straight up ass. It's also the origin of my current profile pic.

What's the worst game you finished/rolled credits on?

(games media folks, it can't be something you were assigned to review; this has to be something you subjected yourself to of your own free will)

I watched DETENTION (2019), based on the game of the same name. Now, it's been a few years since I played the game, but as far as I can tell this was a pretty faithful adaptation! It's not perfect as there are some pacing issues, but I really enjoyed it overall. Worth it if you liked the game.

Just wanted to share this Seinfeld clip before the day is through for no particular reason.

I'm still pissed the Dragon Maid movie is only going to be in theaters for one night and on a Monday.

I love The Ring: Terror's Realm

I need this game to get a modern re-release because it needs to be more widely appreciated. Any game that gives you this mission 100% earnestly and with a straight face needs more people to experience it.

This ad needs the obnoxious piano music that plays for 80% of the game so people can really get a feel for what they're in for with this strange and bizarre gem of a game.

This Japanese TV commercial for The Ring tie-in game for the Dreamcast does a great job of making it look like a normal horror game and not the bizarre thing that it actually is

It's officially spooky season which means it's time for more horror (and horror-adjacent) game commercials! Please see the quoted skeet below for last year's posts.

I watched SAW V (2008). It was fine, I guess? Saw movie more focused on Detective Hoffman carrying on the Jigsaw name. The traps felt "whatever" for the most part. Yeah, I don't have a whole lot to say lol.

I watched COPYCAT (1995). An agoraphobe teams up with detectives in order to catch a copycat serial killer. Nothing is particularly amazing about this compared to similar serial killer hunt movies, but I enjoyed it. I loved Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter and the depiction of 90s internet.

This reminds me of when there was a Coca-Cola ad that featured "God Bless America" sung in multiple languages and racists got angry saying "the National Anthem should only been sang in English".

Also I like how it looks like everyone around him is also seated.
neilmackay.bsky.social
God Bless America is just a song by Irving Berlin. It’s not the national anthem. America is so far down the moron hole it will never get out

I watched THE STRANGE NAME MOVIE (2017). A documentary that seeks out people with strange and unusual names ranging from embarrassing last names like Cockburn and having famous names like Frankenstein. It was interesting but it doesn't have much steam to go on as long as it does.

Ah, yes, when I think "cozy" my brain goes right to Misery.
rhagana.bsky.social
Absolutely wild that @commandersterling.bsky.social was ranting this week about how the word"cozy" has become pervasive in video games and I see this at my local library today
Poster at the library's video section advertising "cozy horror" movies; it's a collage of original posters for the films The Fog, Practical Magic, Misery, Werewolves Within, Let the Right One In, Hocus Pocus, Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton version), Scare Me, and An American Werewolf in London.

Since I had always had the Hammer equipped by this point I had no idea this dialogue was actually in the game until I loaded up a save where I guess I hadn't put the Hammer on Mario yet. It's nice of them to remind you to do this lol.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES, 1996)
The Chancellor is speaking to Mario. He's saying, "NEVER forget to equip new weapons and armor! Farewell and good luck!"

"If it's got Jared Leto in it you know what a good name would be? Box Office Poison!"

I watched WHEN A STRANGER CALLS (2006). Unlike the original, where the titular "stranger call" just made up the first 30 minutes or so of the movie, this one is entirely based around the stranger call. It was alright but never reached the heights of the scene from the original.

No Patrick, the ability to dodge and having a stamina bar does not make it a "soulslike"
