Happy Birthday cycleways #CS3 and #CS6
🧵by @hackneycyclist.bsky.social

Latest figures show, when working, the counters have recorded over 24 million cycle journeys (and missed a few million more when offline)

Exactly 9 years ago today - May 6 2016 - the East-West and North-South Cycle Superhighways opened in London. Wide, Dutch style cycling infrastructure right across Central London, including over the river. A game changer for the city

I do tend to bang on a out this, I know, but - Heathrow has an enormous area on which solar PV could be installed - shelter over surface car parks, dead space separating the runways etc - which could make it close to self-sufficient in electricity. Perhaps exploding substations wouldn’t matter then.

On the third anniversary of my first #UnconfinedWalks post on Twitter, it seems an apt time to bring the thread there to an end and restart here. Today a glorious morning in Richmond Park

Our video nasty of the Colney Lane roundabout continues to make waves.

The story features in the latest #BikeIsBest newsletter, as @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social dubs the video “a masterclass on all that is wrong about UK roundabout design”.

We know what works for cycling, #154
We just need to do more of the good stuff, less of the bad, please.

Not really, because gridlock would show up in poorer bus times, for example, though I'd agree other measures are still important

If I understand correctly, it is currently being resurfaced and some restrictions apply meanwhile, but it will reopen fully for pedestrians and cyclists, and not for motors - there are no plans for the foreseeable future to spend the necessary money to do that.
Main span expected to be open to cycling within the month.

Bike journeys have increased by 30% across the West London Bridges from 2018 to 2024. And that is before cyclists get their very own brand new dedicated route across Hammersmith Bridge

For the first time, the Norwegian government has calculated the value to society of the health benefits of increased walking and cycling.

🚲 ~€2.8 for each additional km of cycling
🚶‍♀️ ~€4.2 for each additional km of walking
Samfunnet tjener mye på at folk går og sykler!

Nye tall fra Helsedirektoratet viser at vi sparer:

🚲 33 kr for hver km folk sykler
🚶‍♀️ 49 kr for hver km folk går

Det er sammenlignet med at folk ikke er i fysisk aktivitet, f.eks. om de kjører bil.

Pandemic is the only reason I can think of - could be they do have the data, but it's meaningless because of when it was collected....
Thank you! All well, but work is keeping me very distracted at the mo.!
@peterwalker99.bsky.social would probably interest you too - TfL include analysis in the actual FOI response too.

Removing capacity for motor traffic has cut traffic in West London.

Now we can see (again) what increasing capacity will do in East and South East London, when Silvertown opens next month.
Hammersmith Bridge hasn't made traffic worse. Nearby bridges all showing less traffic since 2018, in new TfL data.
