Yeah, when I saw Wil Wheaton get his (because somehow he was a shingles vax advocate on my feed somewhere) I realised that no longer being in the US meant I was missing out. I'm kinda shocked it's easily available in the US (with insurance) but not here! I'm definitely afraid of getting it again.

Luckily, I got the flu jab on the NHS likely because of asthma, but somehow the asthma isn't bad enough to get me a covid jab. It's kind of like being in the US: you get to pay more to try to stay healthy! (do not like. do not like *at all*)

AI has tanked my audio production business, exchange rates and the cost of living crisis have tanked my English tutoring and, as someone with health conditions that needs to social distance, the remote jobs have all dried up with RTO.

Pretty desperate for work if anyone knows of anything!

Yep. I had to search all over (Boots was very booked up and I wanted it before going to World Fantasy at the end of the month). I ended up at the big Tesco's pharmacy.

For whatever reason, the NHS stopped boosters for the general population 2-3 years ago.

When writing a book, you have the opportunity to dedicate it to someone special to you, like a family member or significant other. But @vallescurarule.bsky.social and I dedicated Spec Fic for Newbies Vol 2 to cats in recognition of a writer's special relationship to their furry little house demon.

What's so exhausting is that I had shingles when I was 9 (had already had chicken pox and best friend then had pox and it triggered the virus in me = shingles). BUT I can't get the shingles vaccine on the NHS until I'm 65! And it costs £400+ to go private. Sigh. (and I just paid £90 for a covid vax)

New study just dropped linking shingles reactivation and dementia risk.

You know what reactivates shingles? Covid.

Want to avoid it? Wear a well fitted respirator and give yourself the best odds of avoiding Covid infection.

There’s also a shingles vaccine which may help reduce risk!

Instead of considering it a lack of creativity and talent in the writing of books, it's more a lack of creativity and talent in the marketing of books. And, unfortunately, too many authors are being forced to do their own marketing (even if they're trad pubbed).

It’s not just you. The oldest friends I have I met when I was around 24, and I still “see” the two of them on video chats maybe 2x a year. I also don’t understand the whole “go home and see x# of people from back in the day.” It’s a thing for some but not all. And I’m NOT who I was even at 24.

Pushing for a cease fire so you can look good in a genocide you specifically enabled, at the same time as you’re assaulting your own democracy & waging war on your own cities, is never going to get you a prize for peace.
