It doesn't matter if some country is collectively making a bad decision.
thomasfuchs.at
Well the issue back then was that modems wouldn’t go anywhere near that fast anyway.

However reading/writing directly to the serial port hardware (without buffering) is really more dependent on proper timing (in an app like a terminal
emulator it’s fine to use CPU time for that).
thomasfuchs.at
I also dimly remember reading the there might be earlier IIc board revisions that have issues at higher baud rates
thomasfuchs.at
It’s entirely possible I misremember and that it topped out at 19,200
thomasfuchs.at
Hmm MODEM.MGR works for me with that baud rate

funny and accurate thread about trickery in dancing robot demos

it’s funny how it exploits our natural sense of empathy — “that thing that looks like me must also find the same things i do difficult”

and i do mean exploits

just like chatbots do

I'm laughing out loud because, *twenty years ago*, a friend in robotics told me that showing off a dancing robot is what you do when your robot sucks, and a *group* of them even more so.

I love doing this with the Apple IIc. (It’s cute and supports 115,200 baud.)

Maybe I'll try it out, I'm on iTerm

personally I'm more concerned about that they're trying to shoehorn "Liquid Glass" into the OS with some very questionable results
thomasfuchs.at
fwiw you can turn that off if you want (although if do so completely some Apple stuff like Apple Pay won't work), but it's not really an issue for command line stuff and in practice it's not a big deal with modern GUI apps either (because they're all signed)
thomasfuchs.at
it's definitely a net positive

It all started to go downhill when people began to purposefully make vertically video
thomasfuchs.at
This is a skill that should be taught to everyone, I’m asking around if there’s anything helpful (like a website with a game) for this
thomasfuchs.at
Is there a website that trains you to recognize gen AI images and video, perhaps in form of a game?
thomasfuchs.at
Like when it’s a cartoon or TV show it’s very clear that stories are being told, a small child can understand that it’s not showing reality.

But AI stuff mixed in with real videos that are presented like candid camera stuff is different. It’s become good enough to often fool media literate adults.

Sometimes when something makes you feel uncomfortable your feelings are right. :)
thomasfuchs.at
There’s other stuff like potential cognitive problems as it trains perception to accept impossible things (e.g. items that appear and disappear), especially for children.

Like imagine growing up seeing this stuff for hours each day.
