The team having fun with cloak
Along with working on the fundamentals of rapier & cloak, we also worked through some fun actions — like the cloak bind!

Fun action that can be used in a multitude of scenarios. Here the team works on using it to create an opening for a straight thrust.

Utter nonsense.

SEN. @schatz.bsky.social : "This is not about money. There is enough💰to bail out Argentina with ($40 BILLION). Enough to purchase a brand new aircraft for $173 MILLION for Noem. Enough to renovate the ballroom. What there isn't enough💰for under this Republican government is YOU."
We are keeping things primarily at a walk so humans and horses can ease into the game.

It’s been a lot of fun adapting swordplay on foot to horse and collaborating with the riders (and new horse friends)!
Often we’ve had folks on the barrel horses in the “coach” role of the drill, receiving the touch from the student.

In this video, it’s a little more free from. The mounted fencer initiates with an attack and then it turns into a parry-riposte volley exercise as the rider moves by.
It has the benefit of training one’s balance and being able to focus squarely on blade work and not sword work and horse maneuvering...
Few people were asking about the barrel horses and what the folks on there are working on.

These were made by Eleanor Fitzpatrick (SCA) so the folks who weren’t on a horse could work on things and not just watch on the sideline... 🧵

Excited to see the coaching staff grow and have Gavin on the team.

He's one of the original "homegrown" Academie fencers, back before the Academie was the Academie and I was teaching Zoom lessons.

Between Gavin and Bella, our beginners are in good hands. 🙂
We're excited to announce that Greg Tremblay (aka Gavin) has joined the Academie's coaching staff! 🎉🎉

Gavin is one of the Academie's OG students, back before the Academie was the Academie, learning rapier online through @thetavernknight.bsky.social's Zoom classes during the pandemic lockdowns.

The ironic symbolism of the permanent defacing of the white house vs the impact of this administration on the country - feels like a plot point heavy enough to have been cut out in the Leverage writing room.

This is a desecration and an abomination. First he posts an AI video of himself wearing a crown dumping shit on the heads of Americans, then he starts tearing down part of the White House for his Mar-a-Lago style ballroom.
When that went well, we worked on pulling more violence back into the attack.

Alas, my phone ran out of drive space so that part of the session didn’t make it but I will confirm that Kat did great!
After refining that, we threw it into an option drill (seen here).

⚜️If I disengage late, Kat should be well covered by sword and dagger.

⚜️If I disengage early, they track with their dagger, moving into seconda to strike.
With dagger, they were noticing they were getting hit in the flank a lot while they were attacking.

So we worked on strong closed guards — while the dagger is covering high, the sword is covering low against late disengagements and counterattacks.
Fun session with Kat, who was visiting from out of town.

We worked on a few things during our session — getting more violence or explosiveness out of their attacks, and then some dagger work.

Cloaktober continues for our rapier folks with an introduction into cloak-extended guards!

Here two of our beginners, Kaycee and Edvard, demo two variations of Fabris’s terza guard with rapier and cloak.

Nice work!

An IRL example of the Fiction Paradox: fiction needs to make more sense than real life to be believable.

Seriously, if someone wrote this into a story, the audience would check out immediately.
I spend a year plotting a mystery novel and then this happens.

You know it’s bad when the Dept of Labor says immigration raids are “threatening the stability of domestic food production and prices for US consumers.”

meghan mccain is a spoiled rotten dumbass whose only currency is saying outlandish, audacious bigotries on the internet– which probably used to garner a stern phone call from her father, but her father is dead and she acts like if she just gets louder and dumber he’ll rise like lazarus
it’s been horrifying to see how many republicans believe in the “elected dictator” theory especially after they spent the entire Biden and Obama presidencies (who both won by larger margins) saying that they are dictators

This is important! Markey is running for reelection against a “generational change” Democrat whose position on trans rights is cynical wishy-washiness. It matters that his response hasn’t been to “moderate his position.”
Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) at the Boston No Kings rally today, wore the trans pride flag like a scarf draped over his shoulders and included in his speech. "Because here in Massachusetts, we stand for what is right. We stand with trans people because trans rights are human rights."
