Happy Pride to all our Fencing Friends and Fam!

What we do thrives in a diverse and caring community. Much like we can only improve our fencing by playing and working with a wide variety of people, so can our nation only progress forward and lead by embracing the same.
As the school continues to grow, the Academie's need for more knowledgeable and talented instructors do, too, and we're excited to have Gavin on board.

Please join us in congratulating Gavin!
Gavin has been a warm and welcoming ambassador to new fencers at the Academie and acting as a Class Captain. He's run several Intro to Rapier classes within the SCA, and was also recently awarded the SCA East Kingdom's Order of the Golden Rapier for fencing skill, leadership, and community building.
Per Gavin's bio:

"Greg (Gavin to the SCA and just about everyone who knows him) is what happens when the Bard multi-classes at level 12. A professional actor and lifelong sailor, Gavin took up the rapier during lockdown, and is one of Boston Academie d'Armes' home-grown fencers..."
We're excited to announce that Greg Tremblay (aka Gavin) has joined the Academie's coaching staff! 🎉🎉

Gavin is one of the Academie's OG students, back before the Academie was the Academie, learning rapier online through @thetavernknight.bsky.social's Zoom classes during the pandemic lockdowns.
Stylish and deadly. Fencing with rapier and cape!
Congrats to Eli for taking 4th place at the BHL Smallsword Tourney this past weekend!

This was his first Smallsword tournament and second tourney overall.

Cloaktober continues for our rapier folks with an introduction into cloak-extended guards!

Here two of our beginners, Kaycee and Edvard, demo two variations of Fabris’s terza guard with rapier and cloak.

Nice work!
Both are part of the SCA's Order of Defense, the highest award one can receive for fencing in the organization.

Congrats!!!

Congrats to Donovan for being crowned King of the East Kingdom in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)!

This spring, he won the first Crown Tourney fought with rapier rules and conventions in the SCA. He, along with Meghanta (also in the photo), will lead the East for the next six months.
No prior fencing experience or gear is necessary! We have you covered.

Class will be on Tuesday, November 11th at our new 6pm slot in Belmont, MA.

Get into the Cloaktober Spirit!
Wendy was in town for EK Coronation, so we snuck in a lesson while she was here.

Second half of training we got into the Cloaktober spirit with a simple attack option drill — glide or disengagement.

We focused on adapting single rapier principles and actions to cloak to begin.
And Yelena was named Seamstress to the Crown for her continued embroidery work.

Congrats to all!!
Kate was giving a King’s Cypher for her work as Pennsic Heroic’s Team captain.
Anezka was inducted into the Order of the Maunche for her heraldry work and historical fencing research.
Great day for Academie folks this weekend in the SCA!

Gavin was inducted into the Order of the Golden Rapier for his fencing skills.
The Sunday crew decided to have a little extra fun this weekend, using a buckler or target along with the Italian saber.

It was led by Bella, who pulled from earlier sword & buckler sources, such as Marozzo.

Our beginner and intermediate rapier fencers kickoff the Academie’s fifth annual Cloaktober tradition!

Here the team works on their disengagements against counter pressure, using the cloak or cape to help shut out the line from late counter-attacks.
It'll be a great foundation for them as they embark on Cloaktober this month!

Also we have a free trial Intro to Italian Rapier class coming up in November. Visit our website for more info and to sign up!

Last week our beginner rapier fighters played around with parrying with the offhand to keep their sword free. Here they work through an exchange drill.

Each fencers takes turns attacking, parrying with the offhand and riposting. A fun way of bridging the gap between standard drilling & free play.
Cloaktober 2025 has commenced!

Our dueling sword crew working basic attacks and defense with the cloak or cape in support of the sword.

No cloak? A beach towel will suffice in a pinch!
Our next FREE 'Intro to Italian Rapier' taster class is scheduled for Tuesday November 11th in Belmont, MA! This will be happening at our new, additional 6-8pm time slot.
