The amiga @felina510.bsky.social sent me the IG clip with Arozarena calling Julio the worst dancer on the team and this sh t all makes sense now
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Not hating in the least, but I’mma need Julio Rodríguez to work on the personalized dap after home runs. He was struggling there #postseason
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Foulke was pretty great the following year IIRC, but he jumped to Boston after that.

Going to be in New York in early December and now I might start crossing off days on the calendar
noahafrank.bsky.social
Just passed a bar featuring $12 happy hour cocktails. Gotta love New York

2002 also had Billy Koch - a sloshing jug of leaking gasoline and lit matches at his peak - pitching in a non-save situation in top of 9th of game #5 and turning a close game into not-close, so #athletics rally could fall one run short
philipmichaels.bsky.social
The ones that kill me are 2002 (great A's team, threw away Game 4 in Minnesota) and 2013 (Bob Melvin mismanaging Game 4, setting up a do-or-die game with Justin Verlander, depriving us of facing a very gettable Red Sox team in the ALCS).

Everything else just proves God's indifference to me.

The 1990 #athletics were probably the least painful for me. After going down 0-2, I knew it was over. I'd seen this story two years earlier lol. Still the greatest A's team of my lifetime and spending a year walking around as the fan of a world champion team is something every fan should experience
jmenglish27.bsky.social
1990 was the one that really gave me the grumpies. That's still the best A's team I've seen, and it's not close. And they absolutely folded. Outside of the walkoff win (Game 2? foul ball screwjob) they got handled.

The last 25 years of #athletics fandom has scarred us all
melissalockard.bsky.social
All of them sucked! Every single one. I don’t think you can rank your stab wounds when you are bleeding out.😂
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
2002 #athletics starting Cy Young winner Barry Zito on final day of regular season, instead of game #1 of ALDS remains one of the dumbest decisions in team history lol
wipps.bsky.social
2000 - happy to be there - Game 5 Gil ugh
2001 - winning 2 on the road w/ a 18 game active home winning streak, Dye breaks leg and Giambi final game is hard to beat
2002 - A's were the far better team and could've silenced the rally monkey and ran 1989 back??
2003 - Just stupid stuff
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
The...gold standard 😎

Honestly, after 45 years of #athletics fandom, the only playoff heartbreak that still sticks in my craw is the 2003 ALDS. Just an unfathomable crapping of the bed. Maybe the Yankees bounce them in the next round that year, but watching the A's shoot off all 10 toes? Still salty lol
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
I can only assume this to be true of any #athletics fan who points to 2014 Wildcard as more painful. That A's team spent the entire second half sucking. They unloaded Cespedes. They weren't winning anything!
sandwichpick.bsky.social
I wonder if this would've topped 2014 but I wasn't born yet unfortunately
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Oh, I've long made peace with 1988. Curse of the short series. Hershiser on the heater of a lifetime, bunch of unlikely role players making Hollywood moments for five games. #athletics were the better team, Dodgers get the trophy 🤷🏾
scottkeenan724.bsky.social
They were down 2-0 before game 1 and doomed lol. Even if things go differently Hershiser is pitching 7.1 innings and giving up like 1 bloop single on 2 days rest in game 7. Striking out 11 on 137 pitches.
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
They didn't! TONS of injuries in the 1st half (Canseco, McGwire, Eck) and the Angels hung around well into August. #athletics only lost once in October, but the regular season was a grind! Rickey still doesn't get enough credit for putting that offense on his shoulders down the reg season stretch
scottkeenan724.bsky.social
I would have more sympathy for you if Oakland hadn't infield raked everyone the next year
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Proud to serve alongside you, soldier 🫡 #athletics

Eck got squeezed by ump Doug Harvey (NL) when pitching to mike davis. I will die on that hill.
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
If anyone thinks their reach on Bluesky is lacking, spend the summer posting about #athletics Tyler Soderstrom's defense and watch the receipts roll in lol. I posted a LOT of good things about him in August and September, guys!
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Don't let your favorite sports team ruin your mood, guys. This shit ain't that serious ✌🏾
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Today is the anniversary of Kirk Gibson's iconic HR in the 1988 World Series. The one upshot as an #athletics fan is that every other playoff gut punch has been way less painful by comparison. Hell, the 1990 A's are my favorite team of all time. Those 2000-03 teams dragged me back to baseball...
Dennis Eckersley has not allowed a home run since August 24
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Will fuck you up if he don't win
Tommy Pham
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
I'm guessing someone threw him a vote for the circumstances of him getting moved to LF in May, then struggling offensively all summer and legitimately working his ass off to be playable out there by September while finding his swing again. It's a helluva story! #athletics
wipps.bsky.social
Thoughts on Soderstrom up for a gold glove in the OF @thatbootlegguy.bsky.social ???
thatbootlegguy.bsky.social
Cal Raleigh fans learning that Gold Gloves are and have always been meaningless.
