On October 11th, 1960, the #LooneyTunes went prime time on ABC. Happy 65th anniversary to The Bugs Bunny Show.

Overture, curtain lights.
This is it. We'll hit the heights.
Tonight, what heights we'll hit.
On with the show, this is it!

The classic Warner Bros. cartoons were a product of their time. But they are still allowed to be enjoyed. Pepé Le Pew is by all means harmless, yet the whole joke is that he can’t point out that he smells and he fails horribly at wooing a girl. The French accent also adds to the satire.

Squeaks Squirrel is my favorite modern toon, so I've always wanted to see what he would look like if he were around since the Looney Tunes Golden Age.

@brandonsart.bsky.social realized that vision for me. Thanks much😄

He may not be as recognized as Chuck Jones or Friz Freleng but Robert McKimson's dedication is quite admirable. He was there from the start, he was the best animator they had but as a director, he got handed the shitty end of the stick so often, he had every reason to quit and yet he stuck around...
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
Happy birthday to Robert McKimson. As one of the three mainstay directors at Warner Bros. Cartoons, he was there from the very beginning to the very end. He created Foghorn Leghorn, Taz, and Speedy Gonzales.

Robert McKimson, like with Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, Tex Avery and Bob Clampett, left a treasured legacy of characters and shorts that continue to keep us entertained and laughing to this day.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
WB re-opened their studio in 1967, and McKimson stayed until the last short, “Injun Trouble”.

McKimson died of a heart attack at the age of 66 in 1977. He was survived by his brothers, Charles and Tom McKimson, and his son Robert McKimson Jr.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
But one of his most famous characters is the Tasmanian Devil, or Taz, which became very popular after his run of five shorts.

After the cartoon studio closed in 1963, he moved over to DePatie-Freleng working on new Looney Tunes shorts between 1964 and 1967.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
He also created Hippety Hopper and Sylvester Jr. as new foils and counterparts for Sylvester. He also created is Speedy Gonzales in 1953. In his first appearance, his design is exaggerated. Friz Freleng would later retool him to his iconic look.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
He retooled Chuck Jones’ Henery Hawk to make way for his strongest creations. Foghorn Leghorn, Barnyard Dawg, Miss Prissy, and Egghead Jr. making up his barnyard series of shorts.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
Bob’s brothers Tom and Chuck McKimson also work at the studio as animators too.

He directed some very great Bugs Bunny shorts like “Easter Yeggs”, “Hillbilly Hare”, and “Rabbit’s Kin”. Not to mention he had drawn the definitive model sheet for Bugs Bunny in 1943.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
He worked with them even more. Salesman Daffy is one of his formulas.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
He became a director after Frank Tashlin left the studio in 1944 to pursue live action filmmaking. He finished “Tale of Two Mice” and “Hare Remover”. His first short he solely directed was “Daffy Doodles” (1946), a Daffy and Porky classic.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
He was hired by Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising in 1930, doing ink and paint work on the very first Looney Tunes short, “Sinkin’ in the Bathtub”. Bob then became an inbetweener and then in animator in 1931.
termiteterraceclub.bsky.social
Born in Denver, Colorado in 1910, he spent 10 years to get his art education. He had worked for the Disney studio for 2 years and then went to work for the Roger Grey Studio. After the 1929 Wall Street crash, none of Romer Grey’s work was released.

No it’s totally understandable given 15 years of Disney’s MCU fatigue. I felt the same way about the genre until I actually gave it a shot, but obviously it’s not for everyone.

I want to make it perfectly clear I've got nothing against TRON: ARES. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

But what I want most is for the younger generations to love going to the movies, which means we need more movies for them. Not every movie needs to be for 50 year old white guys.

Exactly. Sony put a comedy in January, One of Them Days, and it did modestly way.

Universal‘s calendar, plenty of variety.

WB had Sinners, F1 and Weapons alongside Minecraft and Superman. As well as One Battle After Another which is having good legs.
