It was AMAZING. I think about 15% of the houses in that neighborhood were celebrating Diwali. Lots of other folks walking around with their kids to exchange holiday greetings with their Desi neighbors.

Here me out... toss is in a little bit of olive oil and salt, then put it in your air fryer for 20 minutes instead of boiling. Then it's like the tater tots of pasta: crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside!

It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

It's also a fucking Totenkopf, which is arguably one of the most famous symbols of Nazism behind the swastika. It's the equivalent of saying you didn't realize burning crosses is associated with the KKK because you are only familiar with the pointy white hoods.

The thing that really gets me about the Platner tattoo is his response on the Pod Save America podcast (to a VERY generous interviewer) seemed mostly focused on "well no one ever told me it was a Nazi tattoo" instead of taking ownership and being horrified to learn he has a Nazi tattoo.

I'm generally in the "you're a real piece of shit if you're proud to be an American" camp but there is something genuinely heartwarming about living in a place where houses decked out for Halloween can exist next to homes decorated for Diwali. 💜

The N.C. Triangle has a huge Desi population and I am blessed to have friends in that community. I have such a warm memory of sitting on my porch in October 2022 & wondering why people were setting off fireworks nearby only to realize that folks celebrating Diwali had moved to my neighborhood. 💜

As a White American who grew up in rural North Carolina, I would like to proclaim that Diwali is the perfect holiday. You get fireworks AND copious amounts of Indian food. Also, jalebi beats the shit out of funnel cake.

I 100% agree that protesting alone is not enough but 7 million people showed up on Saturday. In all 50 states. In big cities and small towns.

Respectfully, a giant protest march seems like a GREAT place to "find your people and build something real."

Then the Conservatives who get tired of paying the taxes move down to my state (North Carolina) and then proceed to bitch about lack of infrastructure. I notice they tend to wait until they no longer have kids in school to move because fuck paying for your neighbors' kids once you've gotten yours.
