I follow with abandon academics, writers, artists, and others who make the world more intelligible and enjoyable, but I also likes me some silly stupid posts. As one other poster here has said, my apologies in advance for the dichotomy.

Apparently I was put into a Starter Pack of "People who are not in any Starter Pack" by some guy named Epimenides.

Listen, the horse I rode into town on had nothing to do with this.

The sad part is that I'm a chemist and probably should have gotten it in one. Oof.

Went to church yesterday.
An exterior photo of the rear facade of the Philadelphia Museum of Art on an overcast day. It resembles a Greek temple, evocative of the Parthenon, with a red/tan hue in its exterior stonework. A view of the Great Staircase Hall in the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the large golden statue of Diana with her bow drawn by Augustus Saint-Gaudens visible at the top of the stairs. A view of the ceiling of the Grand Staircase Hall in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with the mobile sculpture "Ghost" by Alexander Calder hanging from the ceiling and a row of paned clerestory windows visible.

Had a grocery store sandwich for lunch today that was as disappointing as it was expensive, which was a relationship I did not expect.

When the kid has a better dinner date, Dad cooks for himself. Sadly, the steak was overdone (medium well) vs the target medium rare; this Dad still needs to learn a thing or two over an unforgiving charcoal grill.
A photo of a home-cooked steak dinner on a marble countertop, including a gorgonzola-topped strip steak, creamed spinach, loaded baked potato, salad with cheesy garlic bread and a glass of red wine.

Am I shaping my deeds to a well made Plan,
Patiently doing the best I can?
Or am I a wrecker, who walks the town
Content with the labor of tearing down?"

And I thought to myself as I went my way,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with care
Measuring life by a rule and square?

I asked the foreman: "Are these skilled--
And the men you'd hire if you had to build?"
He gave me a laugh and said: "No, indeed!
Just common labor is all I need.
I can wreck in a day or two
What builders have taken a year to do."

Often attributed to Edgar Guest:

"I watched them tearing a building down,
A gang of men in a busy town.
With a ho-heave-ho and a lusty yell,
They swung a beam, and the side wall fell."

I think it was Joni Ernst who said the "we are all going to die" line, but, I concur, terminal stupidity abounds in our government now.

I’d always known that my wife had difficulty admitting mistakes, but one day in 2016, I pointed out that she’d entered our address incorrectly into the GPS. She denied it, and we arrived at the home of a lovely elderly couple named Burt and Anna, whom we’ve lived with ever since.
