I am being asked to tell my department which pieces of lab equipment should be supported with backup power because they expect rolling blackouts and brownouts in 2026 due to increased energy demands from AI. In case you're wondering how my day is going.

I'm starting to feel like the worst humans live the longest because whatever God they subscribe to doesn't want them back.

Today's reminder for people who are like "I liked the world better when it wasn't so woke or whatever..."

Paddington Bear - the children's book character - is a whole ass refugee. He's not even British; he's from Peru.

Age of Aquarius is about tech yes but it’s also about the humanitarian, the rebel, the collective. We have cosmic imperative to take our shit back.

Hey there y'all, I'm unsure if my contract is going to be extended OR, if it does, it will end soon for the year and become available early next year.
Either way, I'm looking for remote UX/UI/Product Design work just in case. I love my job but can't plan around uncertainty due to budgeting ❤️

Person: "I used a search query"

Me: "Is that not a search query parameter?"

Person: "Am I making sense? This is really technical..."

Me: "I get it just fine; that's what I took classes for. You're trying to [code logic summary]."

Stop 👏🏾 Playing 👏🏾 With 👏🏾 Me 👏🏾

Mind, the person I am speaking to wrote the code so I'm thinking that surely the person who codes the most in our group could understand running a script, getting two items, making an adjustment, and - if I get more than two - going "okay, that works!"

Pseudo-coding ftw. /4

Person: "I need to write a script to find just inline attachments"

Me: "But why do that when you could just add an inline check to your working script and analyze the difference in output?"

Person: "I don't understand what you mean..."

Me: "Analyzing a delta...?" /3

And it is my opinion that being great at coding requires both. Because while I can't write nuanced code off the dome, if I code something, I can absolutely tell you the what why and how of whatever I put together.

This morning meeting is testing me, istg. /2

Being at work and talking about code testing makes me very aware of differences in [knowing what something does] vs [knowing how a process/logic works].

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century “woke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of Bartlomé de las Casas.
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed. After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....
