“It’s not supposed to be something that you look at and admire. It’s supposed to challenge you, to move you, to help you see things differently, to maybe force some questions that you know need to be answered....if you want to hear God, you’ve got to go to the margins of life.”
In Chicago, a Nativity scene features a zip-tied baby Jesus and Roman centurions in "ICE" vests.

Near Boston, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are absent from a Nativity scene, replaced with a sign reading "ICE was here."

It's all part of growing religious blowback to ICE. religionnews.com/2025/12/05/i...
ICE Nativity scenes: Churches reimagine Christmas story amid deportations
(RNS) — 'We know that Jesus was born into a Roman imperial occupation, and pretty much immediately becomes a refugee in Egypt, has to flee and faces political violence,' the Rev. Michael Woolf said.

“We know that Jesus was born into a Roman imperial occupation, and pretty much immediately becomes a refugee in Egypt,” said The Rev. Michael Woolf, who was violently detained by police outside an ICE building last month. “So we have to ask: what would it be like if Jesus were born here today?”

Of course, all of this sits under the weight of "capitalism makes the calls" about what kinds of stuff people produce.

We see small creators trying a lot of different formats to focus on entertainment, as opposed to "market research says" + "How to fuck ppl out of royalties".

There's been lot of talk lately about the problem of people making movies & tv "to be heard, not seen" because people are putting them on in the background.

I think that's a valid point, too. We're still in the middle of a drastic culture shift of the combination of internet + mobile devices.

I feel two ways about this: yeah, some formats completely lose key points of a piece of media, just like great music through bad speakers.

OTOH, given the economy, ppl living out of their cars, etc. there's a reason phones become the primary media device for a lot of people.
To quote David Lynch on watching feature films on a phone:
"It's the most sickening, horrifying joke. [...] It's such a sadness that you think you've seen a film on your fucking phone. Get real."

when a poor person uses food stamps for a steak or homeless person spends $5 on a beer, it’s seen as proof that all poor people are so bad with money that they shouldn’t be given any, ever, for any reason. $77 billion out the window, and zuck’s legacy as a safe government contract bet is secure.
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the "Metaverse" has lost his company more than $77 billion.

Please stop sharing ai unless you are calling it out and educating people on it.

Sharing a video or meme that’s ai just because you think it’s “funny” is not helpful at all. Doesn’t matter if you didn’t make it, you’re bringing that to us and giving them the attention they desire.
(We have to all agree that sharing AI made things is still supporting AI or all our anti-AI talk will be for nothing because even if you’re not using it, you’re giving incentive (engagement) to people who do use it to make them keep using it by making what they made go viral)

So Leavitt’s brother has a history of physical abuse and threatened to get her deported. And people are still wondering if all of this could’ve been intentional.
“After they broke up, Ferreira said in court records that Michael Leavitt had in the past threatened to try to get her deported.”

The people pushing for the elimination of birthright citizenship are currently committing atrocities against immigrants within our country's borders and murdering fishermen overseas. This cannot be ethically discussed as an abstract legal question. There is no law here, only a fascist will to power.

Please note that any "centrist" pundit who blithely discusses the "merits" of arguments for eliminating birthright citizenship is either a fascist enabling fascism or a clueless clown enabling fascism.

without birthright citizenship in the united states, you don't have a democracy and you don't have rule of law.

revoking birthright citizenship gives fascists free rein to purge the country of literally anyone they don't like. it opens the door to atrocities and mass murder. i am not exaggerating.

“Kill all boats no matter where they are going or what they possess” isn’t a strategy, it’s just a killing spree
WELKER: Is there any hard evidence showing this particular boat was headed to the US?

TOM COTTON: That didn't come up in my briefing

WELKER: Are you comfortable having the US target a boat that you're not sure is heading to the US?

COTTON: I'm not just comfortable with it -- I want to continue it
