The long Marca interview from this weekend actually makes me cautiously optimistic, he talks a lot about the team in a way that feels very realistic and respectful tbh but not like PR clichés either.

I probably view the idea of stereotypes as a bit more different than the notion of "I've met a bunch of people from X background, and this guy from same background is different than them", but sure.

But also, the reaction to a written only non-native speaker English interview feels like overkill.

Having read the interview he talks about it in terms of internal team race analysis not in terms of individual self-criticism. So post race evaluations. Post-mortems... Performance evaluation as a team
But the translation algorithms translate it to self-criticism.
Which UAE as a team could also need

And obviously, it's impossible to avoid including our own frames of reference to what we read in interview excerpts, but it also feels a bit unjustified to pass our own countries'/cultures' ingrained negative stereotypical views of another culture onto people not from our own background I guess? ☺️🤷🏻‍♀️

We reserve that particular toxic stereotype for other nationalities which is obviously just as bad. So that interpretative jump may also represent awareness of some regionally dependent negative stereotypes.
(Like, DK's negative Italian stereotypes are more "loud, chaotic, dramatic & LOUD" I guess?)

Which one? The "Remco says dumb shit" one? Or an underlying Italian one?
Without sounding holier than thou, and not disputing this being a thing at ALL, but in my circles I've never heard ppl say that Italians specifically are not bright/intelligent.
Loud and extra? Absolutely. Dumb? Not really. 🤷🏻‍♀️😅

To me a direct correlation would be implied if the second "he is" wasn't there.
("He's smart etc, not like other ...")
I get that it's a small detail, but that's kinda the deal with most language interpretation things tbf.
How it stands I read it as two independent statements, not as "a therefor b".

I'm glad at least one person appreciated knowing that the Netflix TdF production would have flunked the practical media portion of the big two semester TV/Film production course I did for my uni degree on their absolute lack of background continuity in the footage used for coherent scenes/sequences🫣

It may to some, to me it legit doesn't and that's not me trying to be argumentative or generous to him. It may be rooted in native language structures / expectations tho.

However, my main point is that it's solely a written recount. The writer did the written grammar we see, not Remco.

It's long lost now, but I had some pretty epic/nerdy media analysis rants (if I may say so myself) on twitter back then about the first season...😂

Let's just say it was very evident that nobody in the editing room had ever watched cycling. 😬 Plus they manufactured drama but left out THE handshake?😵‍💫

The death of shame and its consequences, especially for public figures, is a huge reason why we are in this place as a country. Shame as a concept is imperfect and can be abused, but we should absolutely be able to say that people with horrific, hateful beliefs must be made pariahs.

Not everyone you go to school with is invited to your birthday party, not every coworker and neighbor to the cookout. Deciding the level of intimacy with which you will live with the people around you is an utterly mundane part of living in the world—yes, even a free world—and doing so on the basis of other people’s character and conduct informs those decisions for anyone with values that stretch beyond those of cynical self-protection and into the territory of things like “basic self-respect,” “respect for others,” and “basic integrity.” Russell was not infringing on Mosley’s freedom by deeming him unworthy of polite conversation—even if he had done so for questionable rather than principled reasons. He was simply exercising his own freedom, alongside a better set of values than Mosley had. A free world would expect as much: indeed, it would require it.
