People have bad memories; before the ACA people with serious health issues either had to pay ridiculous prices (thousands of dollars a month) or were denied insurance altogether. Republicans want to bring back that world.

People lived in terror of getting sick and dying or going bankrupt. The ACA saved my life. Republicans have wanted to repeal the ACA since the beginning. Making it completely unaffordable is a way to do it. People will die and/or lose everything.

I remember NOT having insurance even though I was working. My husband paid some ridiculous price for catastrophic only coverage with an astronomical deductible for him. I couldn’t find any insurance because of preexisting conditions. The state of Alaska offered zero help. I qualified for nothing.

1) these areas of Alaska are pretty consistently blue, including in 2024. Harris won in the statehouse district including the worst-hit communities 50.8 to 39.

Two major storm systems struck western Alaska in rapid succession, bringing record flooding, extreme winds, and extensive damage from Kwigillingok to Kotzebue. Homes have been damaged and destroyed, critical infrastructure compromised, and subsistence resources disrupted. The Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund will provide support to affected communities for immediate relief, recovery support, and long-term resilience, including disaster preparedness initiatives.
