if people don't know the book exists they simply will not read it. if your goal is for it to spread further you must start telling more people.
I’ve said this before, a lot, but when you’re an author and your book doesn’t sell your feelings can default to the premise, “Everyone in the world was offered my book and they all personally rejected it.” The truth is most people don’t know it exists. Awareness is the problem, not you or your book.
Learning how to edit and make revisions more efficiently (a year-long process of wasted time...) plus learning a lot of the basics that my profs in school failed to do, having me learn a lot all at once. It's overwhelming, exhausting, but the quality shows it's been WORTH it.

#pretendpanel I once again must catch up with your responses tomorrow. I'm at another all-day writing event. For now, tell me...

October 18th: Is there anything about the writing process or about any of your writing projects that drains you?

The A-to-B in the middle can yeah, be rough... I had to learn to improve since I already had Alphas DNF.
It really is exhausting...
Pitches... I can sell something I enjoy but for the life of me, doing my own is the hardest thing ever! 😩
When you see a game sitting on your backlog that you swore you'd "play it soon" has its 10th anniversary today 😣
Probably the one where dozens appearing like human corpses stitched together to make one massive one.
1st pass edit for Ch 10 is done! Not too many changes to it, fortunately. I think I deserve a little break for the rest of the night. Been doing well! 😊
I have a whole army of eldritch horrors, so any new creation I come up for those can be incredibly creepy 😅 Well, I guess it depends on reader's creepiness threshold. While they vary in sizes and shapes, I like making them unsettling, especially when they try to imitate animals and people.
Who is your creepiest character? I created a serial killer that toys with women’s feelings. It doesn’t turn out well for him #writingq #WritingCommunity

I guess I can pull out my collage from ChaosPit. There's not enough of a character limit to list out the huge number of things. Even if it was for one small thing or a throw away gag, I added it in. A few references in there that I don't even remember what I used from it, anymore 😋

Freebie Fri!
I've been getting into get art commissions (when I can budget) & they really help motivate me! I REALLY want to yap about my chars more in prompt games, but so much can be spoilery... Instead, I chose to show them off visually, hoping maybe they'll help spark interest.

it's okay to want people to like your oc. validation and praise are very human needs. but here's the thing: if you don't love the shit out of your oc first- i mean you gotta be your oc's first and most important fan, to an almost unhinged degree- it's gonna be very hard for anyone else to do so

I get this. I never go in too deep with mine either. I think it's because I can easier confuse myself with factions, allies, everyones' intents, etc., especially when they get incredibly expansion. I'd need to refer to a chart...
I've always wanted to do a "what if everything we knew about this world and its history, wasn't what we once believed?" story. My early prototypes from years back are evident of this (so I'm glad I finally have 'the good version' of it!)

Good to know that small-scale are also appreciated! I'll see what happens in future stories.
Lights is a contemp fantasy because it takes place in this same Earth... but there are hidden layers which have always been around, and that's where a world stirs that very few are even aware about...

Q5: Tell us about your story world! Is it our world? Our world with added magic/science, or a completely different world? #WeeknightWriters
Most of my stories' worlds aren't as expansive as they could be, so maybe that? I usually keep the focus small, when I could stretch it out further. I see the maps people create and think "oh that's so much to work on" 😅 I dunno, maybe I can make a narrow-focus work.

Q4: What aspects of worldbuilding do you find most frustrating? #WeeknightWriters
Yeah the limit makes it tough! I want to do short-form horror at some point (plenty of ideas), but right now it's fantasy, where establishing a world/history in the story was pretty important to do early on. Horror I feel, might be easier to place exposition, or at least keep it brief.
Ohhh writing short-form is such a skill 😅 Every time I try it's "oops here's another novella/novel!" I think this one story can be an exception, due to the story type (I hope!) but I def plan on framing it very differently in future stories.
