Hello newskies! I'm a retro gaming fan who also makes pixel art from time to time!

I have a silly sprite comic I run at @fishestgup.bsky.social
pixelart of my persona (catboy(?) in a blue purple witch outfit) on a halloween themeed background. pixelart of Niko from Oneshot pixelart of 9S and 2B on a mockup titlescreen for NieR: Automata on the Gameboy, displayed on a real DMG Gameboy. The first Fish Fear Me comic (read more at @fishestgup.bsky.social)

Panel 1:
A purple fish with legs is walking on the beach shore
"Hi, I'm Fishest Gup, the first fish to ever evolve legs and walk on the land!
Panel 2:
Fishest Gup looks at the viewer and says "Naturally, my scientific progress is misunderstood and demonized in its time..."
A muscly yellow fish calls out from the ocean "Boo! You suck!"
Panel 3:
The yellow fish continues "Nobody will ever love you, you ugly leg freak!"
Fishest Gup turns towards the yellow fish, "Come up here and say that, bitch"
Panel 4:
The yellow fish splashes back into the water, leaving.
Fishest Gup says "Yeah, I thought so."

Unfortunately a tax strike would be impossible because for a lot of Americans taxes are automatically deducted from our paychecks, and not filing taxes would mean not getting back what the federal government actually owes to us.

So it sounds like something fun to tinker around with if I wind up with an old desktop computer, but not really useful for much beyond that.

OK the *GitHub* page makes clear what versions of Windows they are aiming for compatability with. It's a cool project but in no way shape or form is it a Modern Windows replacement, and it's pretty embarassing the website obfuscates that fact.
What is ReactOS?

ReactOS™ is an Open Source effort to develop a quality operating system that is compatible with applications and drivers written for the Microsoft® Windows™ NT family of operating systems (NT4, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 7).

The ReactOS project, although currently focused on Windows Server 2003 compatibility, is always keeping an eye toward compatibility with Windows Vista and future Windows NT releases.

The code of ReactOS is licensed under GNU GPL 2.0.
Product quality warning
ReactOS is currently an Alpha quality operating system. This means that ReactOS is under heavy development and you have to be ready to encounter some problems. Different things may not work well and it can corrupt the data present on your hard disk. It is HIGHLY recommended to test ReactOS on a virtual machine or on a computer with no sensitive or critical data!
seerofthenight.bsky.social
The fact that the FAQ doesn't include "is this compatible with Windows 10/11 software?" is nuts. How is that not the first question anyone asks?
seerofthenight.bsky.social
Is anyone familiar with ReactOS? It purports to be an open source OS that is compatible with Windows software. It looks pretty legit but IMO it is a red flag that the website doesn't make clear what versions of Windows it has compatability with. Could be worth investigating, however.
What is ReactOS?
ReactOS is a free, opensource reimplementation of windows

average windows user: can you believe it? my computer chained me to a radiator and started bashing my head in with a wrench, and now I'm bleeding out and dying

average linux user: that's awful! linux doesn't do that to you

average windows user: UGH you are the WORST! I HATE you!

So I wasn't actually planning on making a post about how I impulse purchased Quest 64 on eBay... until I was genuinely blindsided opening up the package to find it like this:
It's New Super Mario Bros U! Wait... what? A well loved cartridge of Quest 64 bearing the name "Keith Davis" lies inside of the case for New Super Mario Bros. U

per Dunkey's video, the campaign isn't installed by default and you have to wait in the queue to connect to the multiplayer server to get to it anyway

which is a FAR more egregious sin imho

I believe it was on a field trip in the bus.

I was definitely subjected to it against my will, regardless.

"Move you'll never watch again" is an interesting ask because there are a lot of movies I liked but also don't want to watch again (Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me, Stephen King's The Long Walk) while there's also a lot of bad movies I could see myself watching again (War of the Worlds, SMB 1993)
seerofthenight.bsky.social
Introduce yourself using only one food you refuse to eat, one movie you’ll never watch again, and one song you can’t stand.

Food: Lasagna
Movie: Cat in the Hat
Song: Most songs I hate I don't actually know the names of because I only hear them in public but how about Radioactive by Imagine Dragons.
lainwithtea.has.fish
Food: Brussel sprouts
They set off my gag reflex when almost no other food does and it's almost entirely due to texture

Movie: Grandma got run over by a Reindeer
It's like an hour too long and has the worst energy for a Christmas movie tbh

Song: Even Flow by Pearl Jam
I don't know why
barleybap.bsky.social
Food: I've been vegan for nearly a decade, and vegetarian for almost my whole life before that. So... uh... Pick one from your local meat aisle.

Movie: The Rise of Skywalker. Probably the most miserable cinema experience I've had as a big Star Wars fan.

Song: All Summer Long by Kid Rock.

The PS6, debuting just in time for the 2027 holiday season, retails at six different SKUs (starting at $1299 USD for the “lite” model), featuring a library of PS5 games to play while awaiting the first exclusive title for the console (currently $2.8bil over budget and tentatively targeting 2031)
seerofthenight.bsky.social
But then again the PS5 Pro came out despite not being needed and despite being an absolute joke so you know what maybe they are gonna try to force a new generation upon us at the "traditional" time despite the fact that that currently makes the least amount of business sense in the world.
seerofthenight.bsky.social
I'm genuinely just going to say I do not believe this for a second. PS6 in 2027? You are absolutely joking. Maybe in 2030 it'll be time for a hardware refresh... *maybe*.

And of course don't even get me started on Xbox, lmao.

There is very little information about this thing on the internet, at least from what I can find. I'm honestly not even sure it officially released outside of Japan?

Anyway here's a neat flyer I found:
a japanese flyer from Epoch featuring the Adventure Zone handheld. It shows that the gameplay is a maze/dungeon crawler type, very impressive for a handheld LCD game from 1984.

found this cool LCD game at Goodwill

searching for information about it online it seems to actually be quite rare? so it's a great find for $4 but unfortunately I do not have the kind of batteries I need to test it. I'll update y'all if I get it working.

Hey, if you count every collection that includes The Ooze as a game then technically The Ooze has sold really well! Well enough to deserve a revival, I think.

"uuuhhh ummm uh how about Rayman Legends?" - @jtfg.dev

It was originally meant to be a Wii U exclusive, before being delayed so it could launch on all platforms after Zombi U failed to meet sales expectations. It's a solid game, definitely a step up from Rayman Origins.

Baroque screenshot of a floating green skirt girl in a dark dungeon telling you "You were extracted from our soul. We are insane. It's your fault we became insane." Same girl as before but now she is saying "You want to cut me? That's fine. You probably want to kill me, right? Then kill me. If you killed me, I think I'd be glad."
