I stumbled across this on a list of classic horror films. While I'm not at all sure I'd call it a horror film, it is certainly unsettling. The style is almost Lynchian.

Not a film for everyone, and I can see it boring the fuck out of most viewers, but it's a cinematic oddity and only an hour long.

The Ugly Stepsister is every bit as grotesque as I'd heard, and I loved it for that. A gothic fairy tale filled with gore and body horror, and more than a few laughs.

Definitely. Byzantium is closer to those in tone than to most horror films.

Byzantium is one of the more unusual vampire films I've seen. Not really horrific, but poignant, moody and beautifully made.

Winterbeast may not be the worst film I've ever seen, but I'm struggling to think of a less coherent one.

I don't think I've ever seen a film fail in so many different ways as Winterbeast. Watching this film is a shamanic rite, and you will not be unchanged by it.

Dead Talents Society is a terrific dark comedy about ghostly influencers in a very Chinese afterlife. Fast-paced, bloody, and completely absurd. A definite highlight of this month so far!

While I did enjoy Dangerous Animals, and it's beautifully made, the ending was a terrible let-down. Also, there weren't anywhere near enough shark attacks for a film about a psychopath who feeds people to sharks.

Is Nightmare City any good? No.

Is it entertaining? In places.

Would I recommend it? Only if you you share my dysfunctional relationship with cheesy Italian horror. And why wouldn't you?

Roadgames is a perfectly serviceable thriller in the Hitchcock mould, but it just feels too damn safe. A bit more meanness could have made it into something special.

I adored The Monkey. It is exactly the kind of gory, macabre fun that gets a ghoulish chuckle out of me. The only real surprise is that it was made by Oz Perkins, whose films are usually weightier.
