With win #666 😬, the #Eagles' combined record is over .500 for the first time in their 92 year history:

Since “Bedlam at the Bank”,

✅ Bryce Harper has a .965 OPS in the postseason.

✅ it’s the 7th highest postseason OPS in MLB*

*of 68 hitters with 50+ PA

Since 2015, 87 players have batted 100+ times in the postseason.

Of those 87, Kyle Schwarber has the 9th highest OPS (.907).

Bryce Harper has the highest (1.016):

No player hits well in every postseason series they play.

this is so, so good. it's also, in its way, a paean to the regular season and why it matters in and of itself, even if MLB is doing its best to pretend it only exists as a prelude to the playoffs.

Game 4 was a devastating, crushing loss.

Now, if I were told in March that the #Phillies would make the postseason but without Wheeler and Alvarado, Nola would be limited to 2 innings, and they would lose a closely fought series to LA, that would be disappointing but tolerable.

With 2 HRs last night, Kyle Schwarber:

✅ passes Bernie Williams for 3rd most in postseason history (23)

✅ passes Bryce Harper for most in #Phillies postseason history (14)

✅ ties Ryan Howard with 58 total HRs in a season (regular + postseason)

The #Phillies have faced the #Dodgers 5 times in the postseason, beating them the last 3.

Looking forward to a 4th straight.

the thing about playoff baseball is that a simple chopper to third feels like you're about to watch your house burn down. and we're supposed to want to watch this

Yeah, good catch. I missed it because Rice tied for the RBI lead and I only saw Cooper. Belongs on the list.

With the 2025 playoffs starting today, a graphical summary of the #Phillies' history in the postseason.

Their first appearance was a victory behind Grover Alexander.

However they didn't win another postseason game for 62 years.

Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber have captured the rare "Split Triple Crown", where teammates combine to lead a league in AVG, HR, and RBIs.

They're only the 2nd set of teammates to accomplish it in the last 55 years.

Mea culpa -- the above list entirely misses the active streaks, and two of them are longer than the Phillies' drought:

Athletics 73
Guardians 71
schmenk.bsky.social
By the way the only active franchises without a batting title are the two expansion teams of 1998, the Rays and Diamondbacks
-- both are now at 28 years and counting...

Not to pile on the Mets, but one last look back at their season:

Their games vs. .500, peaking on June 12th, game 69 (along with the '24 and '25 Phils):

When Richie Ashburn won the NL batting title in 1958, it was the #Phillies' 8th -- tied for the 5th most titles by a team in MLB history at that point.

The 66-year gap to Trea Turner's title this year is by far the longest any team has ever had between titles:

Buddy Kennedy could get a ring this year if the Phillies, Blue Jays or Dodgers win the World Series.

The #Phillies finished the regular season 0 for their last 20 with RISP:

9/24: 0-1 in last AB
9/25: 0-10
9/26: 0-4
9/27: 0-3
9/28: 0-2

➡️ Hitting with RISP is key in the postseason

But

➡️ Finishing 0-20 doesn't say anything about what will happen in the playoffs
