I'm not familiar with most of the names on your list but of the ones I DO know I stand behind this statement ENTHUSIASTICALLY
riiiiiieeeeght!!!! I feel like that rut is something you see when you have a critic who CANNOT ENTER the life of a character, but they won't admit that their empathetic imagination is limited, so they're like "IT'S BECAUSE IT'S DERIVATIVE OBVIOUSLY. UNORIGINAL."
I guess I should add that I appreciated that if I agreed with him but if I didn't I was always like YOU'RE NOT TAKING THIS MOVIE ON ITS OWN TERMS THINK ABOUT *LIFE* NOT JUST OTHER MOVIES
THIS I respect! Nothing wrong with a framework. I feel like I've only seen it employed as a cynical brush-off. Even Roger Ebert, who's critical writing I largely respect, had a way of dismissing SO MANY FILMS by being like "it's one of those _______ that _____'s, we've seen it"
Interesting, I'd assumed the opposite, like they've seen SO MANY MOVIES of a specific kind that they only think in terms of "this is like that" and don't take them in on their own terms.

Him blew my mind, and I'm mystified that anyone thinks it's "nothing new." I've never seen anything like it
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unacceptable.
first sick day of the semester (not a teaching day, that's MWF) feels like a MILESTONE why's that

I don't even know but I will revel in all sensations of achievement across the spectrum of "actual accomplishment" from "fuck yeah I kick ass" to "......what you literally did nothing"
us in his head:

"DAMN that WAS a thought! DEMOCRACY WINS, thank you sir!"
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! Well-deserved I'm sure, and I think a great many people actually have a *heightened* appreciation of all good news right now to combat grimness and terror
"faulty engineering"? I know they had to simplify for quick-summary reasons but the ENTIRE PREMISE was a failure. you can't apply expert engineering to a game console for deep-sea-diving purposes
deeply agree. I wonder if he knows this is such a widely-felt sentiment
"Here's a THOUGHT"

he sure showed *them*

It takes me 3 business days to process my emotions.
maybe, BUT I *could* be underrating Saw since I have nothing to go on but my own pre-judgement.

So often, though, I see people describe some of my favorite horror movies as "it's a ____ version of ____" and I always feel like they're missing what makes it great, at least as I define its greatness
!!!!!!!!! I definitely take issue with that assessment, *but* in fairness I've never had any interest in seeing Saw.

what made it extraordinary to me — especially at that time — was just how beautiful the gore was, aesthetically. I never knew gore could be so poetic.
YOU haven't seen Cube?!?! omg I can't wait to hear what you think!!!! I haven't seen it in ages, but a hot guy named Geoff who worked at Blockbuster recommended it to me when I was 16 and changed my life
Cube
Get Out
M3gan
Interview with the Vampire
Quote this with the first four Horror movies that come to your mind that are 10/10s for you. No cheating. Just the first four that pop into your head.

The Lighthouse
The Evil Dead
Alien
Audition
The Shining
Halloween
Evil Dead 2
Night of the Living Dead

Dawn of the Dead would probably make the cut any other day. As would Return Of the Living Dead.

I’m not actually a big zombie movie guy, but the ones I like, I love.

Another honorable mention: Them
also when the answer is "any of us who *can* do a damn thing are either scared shitless or too deeply in your pockets to attempt to"

I'm not a historian but my analysis is it's "Not good" when a government constantly commits crimes and tells the legislature, courts, and general public "What are you gonna do about it"
....is Elizabeth Holmes working on this from prison? she did say she'd keep trying to revolutionize health care from behind bars

It is truly wild to see how much the actual people of New York want this man as their mayor, and how much the billionaires who usually control politics don’t want that to happen. Democracy amirite??
