We can either have a prosperous liberal democracy or a Republican Party, but we can't have both.

UChicago throwing up its hands and giving up the pretense it’s anything but a finishing school for anticommunist ideologues within seven months of Inauguration Day was, in fairness, probably the *first* item on most people’s bingo cards

This is a devastating account of what ICE is doing to our friends, neighbors and fellow US citizens. Incredible work by @propublica.org.

www.propublica.org/article/immi...
But that is far from the reality many citizens have experienced. Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents. They’ve had their necks kneeled on. They’ve been held outside in the rain while in their underwear. At least three citizens were pregnant when agents detained them. One of those women had already had the door of her home blown off while Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem watched.
that these categories have translated so neatly to US and European fascisms and that they actively underpinned justifications of what became a genocide should be extremely disconcerting to the opposition

Declaring Palestine Action a terrorist group and declaring "antifa" a terrorist group... It's all connected to how any and all Palestinians (and their supporters) are immediately labeled Hamas, and in many cases that seems to justify their killing. Please make the connection.
Saw somebody on here mad at the NYT yesterday for ostensibly mischaracterizing anti-ICE actions as an "uprising" and once again was struck how much Israel-Palestine frames now infuse the discourse about domestic antagonisms

Good news for your ICE FOIA requests: Judge orders ICE agents in Chicago to 1) wear body cameras and 2) keep them on.

Cite this order if and when the agency tells you it has no records responsive to your request for body worn camera footage.
Ellis also says she's modifying the restraining order:

"All agents who are operating in operation midway blitz are to wear body worn cameras and they are to be on."

re: No King’s Day discourse I have two main things: (1) protests work but not how people think (ie, as a way to get someone in power to “do something”); and (2) it is not at all important that the people mobilizing in protest, especially if they are new to the game, know that

Indeed, those quotation marks are missing if that were the point the author was trying to make, as any editor at the FT obviously knows. That her editors let it stand is the problem I am pointing out. The article is premised upon a dichotomy that does not hold.
You don’t problematize a frame by accepting its premises. You eat the frame. The whole piece takes the existence of “internal threats” as a given.

Since Trump declared war on Chicago, teachers have worked to protect and help students and their families from being taken by ICE.

"Young children and even babies appear to have been subjected to the indiscriminate use of tear gas by Defendants' officers."
Good morning. An overnight court filings reveals discussions took place Wednesday over whether the Trump administration has violated a judge's order addressing the use of force in its Chicago immigration campaign.

"The government believes the TRO has not been violated at all."
