In 2024, National Highways acted on a handful of the 1,236 high-risk outfalls.

Without challenging targets and sufficient funding to clean up these outfalls and soakaways it will only tackle a few, making very little difference to reducing water pollution actionnetwork.org/letters/stop...
Stop National Highways’ toxic water pollution!
We all know our rivers are polluted. However, it’s not just from sewage, or due to the inaction of failing water companies. What is less talked about, but in many ways worse than sewage and even more ...

Tools to prevent road death and injury already exist.

Helsinki can do it.

A reminder that Oxfordshire has also very successfully rolled out 20mph in a rural county with exceptionally limited political pushback. I really don't think this is talked about enough. Are your Cllrs refusing 20mph cos "Our LA isn't London"? Tell them about Oxfordshire! Happy to share policy docs.

Great read from @adamtranter.bsky.social ⤵️

Technology should not be introduced at the expense of pedestrian freedom to use the highway safely and conveniently. We need to make sure that the most vulnerable road users are protected and prioritised so that our streets work for all.

Rachel Reeves is right that the world has changed - so why won’t she change her strategy to reflect it? Rigid adherence to arbitrary fiscal rules & refusing wealth taxes is a political choice that’s causing huge pain & harm, as well as laying out the welcome mat for the populists at Reform UK

“Now’s the moment to speak honestly about Brexit’s colossal harm. Most know it already. Even 54% of Britons who voted leave …say they would accept free movement for UK & EU citizens in exchange for single market access” Spot on ⁦‪@pollytoynbee‬⁩ Labour urgently needs to start making the case 👇

Our exit from the EU won’t be a focus of the spring statement, but it should be. Most now accept the need for closer ties, writes Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

The switch to 20mph roads in Wales meant:

🟢 100 fewer dead or seriously injured
🟢 26% fewer injured
🟢 The lowest 3 month casualty figure since records began 46 years ago

That's in just the first year. Real lives saved, real families spared a lifetime of pain and hardship.
Wales’s 20mph speed limit has cut road deaths. Why is there still even a debate?
Research suggests the scheme may be more popular than thought, with consultations dominated by a loud minority

Healthy societies can’t afford billionaires. Every single one is a policy failure.

'Trickle down' economics has never worked. It's nothing more than a way for the rich to hoard ever more wealth while everyone else struggles to get by.

There is a better way. 👇
Lorna Slater: The policies to fix broken UK society are staring us in the face
Billionaires shouldn’t exist. Every one is a policy failure and with 165 in the UK, we can see exactly how our economy is failing.

Who does this Labour government represent?

They have a big majority with only 33.7% of the vote (and turnout was only 59.8%)

How many people who voted for them did so they could cut disability benefits?

Tax the rich, don't punish those in need of support

Absolutely shocking to see a Labour secretary of state stand at the despatch box and proudly announce slashing support for some of those who need it most - including removing the UC health top-up for young people, as if young disabled people don't exist?! #DisabilityBenefits

Why is there ANY debate? 🤦‍♀️

20mph in Wales meant about 100 fewer people killed or seriously injured in a year.

“There is, perhaps, a lesson here for politicians: sometimes it can be best to ignore the noisiest voices, and take the evidence-based course.”

How many times do we have to say it? *Austerity doesn’t work*. More cuts to public spending is economically illiterate and morally indefensible - people didn’t vote Labour to get more Tory austerity. FFS tax extreme wealth, don’t slash public services @patmillsuk.bsky.social

Next week the Labour (yes, Labour) Government are expected to announce even deeper cuts to public services than first thought.

Labour cuts, Tory cuts, it's always the rest of us who pay the price.

The Green Party would tax the rich properly to help close the inequality gap.
