Great interview. I loved Birding when I read it last year. Interesting discussion about the Manics. (For years my dad's alarm when he was on the early shift was 'Motorcycle Emptiness', so the Manics to me mean the dread of getting up for school. Fab song though.)

The single detail I loved the most was Cromie, the person on night shift who tried to start the car, having ‘yellow hands’. Haha. Mad.

Pre-20th century novels are boring, often very very good, but boring

Amazing isn’t it. Really stayed with me. The only thing I think is a bit overdone is that guest in the restaurant who’s chained there! The whole atmosphere is brilliantly nightmarish, and funny!

Just saw an ad for the new Nigel Slater book A Thousand Feasts and thought it said A Thousand Fears. Might be time to give the Aickman a break.

Was this prompted by playing Connections this morning?

This whole thread is absolutely peak Bluesky. Dear Americans, not everything is about you.

Announcing this on a board where Americans are in the fight of their lives against a fascist takeover may be a pointer....

She was arrested for holding a sign reading:

“I do not support the proscription of Palestine Action”

How that would warrant arrest is very unclear. I wonder if the police here even understand the boundaries of the bizarre law they’ve been forced to enforce.

I decided to take my first album off the streaming services (because I think it’s awful!), but it is still on Bandcamp if anyone wants to listen to it
