Lots of new people joining BlueSky just now, which is a good thing.

I try to post a new photo every day, but also post stuff about politics, climate change, and other issues.

I welcome new followers, but I tend not to follow back if you have a scant bio or posting history, or unless I know you.

"We're paying £200bn to shareholders in privatised utilities. Could go to investing in infrastructure. We need to admit privatisation is a failed experiment & end it."

Wiki puts the annual budget of the UK govt at around £1.230tn.

So that's, what, a FIFTH of it? Straight to the rich?

On Monday, we held a second community pressing day for this year's bumper apple crop. We managed to produce over 100 litres of juice, and 60 litres of what will become cider. It's been a bounteous harvest from the orchard.

An MIT report found that 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing

But the sunk-cost fallacy means most will just keep trying
AI-generated code contains 322% more security vulnerabilities.

45% of all AI-generated code has exploitable flaws.

Junior developers using AI cause damage 4x faster than without it.

"Humans aren’t very efficient movers—until you put us on a bicycle, when we become some of the most energy-efficient land travelers in the animal kingdom."

Great news!

For Scientific American’s 180th birthday, we’ve updated a classic graphic comparing different forms of animal locomotion, first published in this magazine in 1973.

Here are Putins' pet toad, Orban, and his pet frog Farage.

Farage says they are fighting for the nation state. Yes, they are... they are fighting for Russia.
Does it involve any high windows? 😉

THREAD. When my parents' cat Bridget went missing, my dad, to try to ease his worry, painted her on a variety of historical adventures. These soon multiplied. Significantly.

After much nagging, he has had some postcards printed of this brilliant series:

Double kudos to @jonhenley.bsky.social and the @theguardian.com for:

a) taking the trouble to report on a set of continental European elections where the far-right didn't sweep all before it!

b) calling the far-right the far-right, not 🤮 'the hard-right'!

Me too. What also worries me is how many people (and I’m talking about some of our kids here too) have NO idea what fascism is!!

Perhaps we should all be seeing our Labour MPs and voicing our concern - and terror tbh.
(Actually, I think this is a good idea)
Chris Packham, "This country voted in a party with a massive majority and a mandate for change"

"All we see is Labour kowtowing to the far right. This causes me enormous concern"

"I'm frustrated, I'm angry, and I've frightened"

"And I get more scared every single day"

Brexit is Farage and his fellow Brexiters' shitstorm to own. He/they can't be allowed to just pivot from heckle to heckle and bad idea to worse - while blaming everyone else - without consequences.

So the suggestion that Labour are going to amplify that truth is to be welcomed.
