Been using ChatGPT to do some coding on a new project

I now know how Stormy Daniels must have felt
Teach kids how to fact check, look after elders, and teach!!
Wow. Just wow.

"Students pay premium prices for information that AI now delivers instantly and for free. A business student can ask ChatGPT to explain supply chain optimization or generate market analysis in seconds. The traditional lecture-and-test model faces its Blockbuster moment."

Boris Johnson, told by Winston Churchill (before the erotica update comes out)
Just glad he got the book out before the Erotica update in December
An MIT report found that 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing

But the sunk-cost fallacy means most will just keep trying
AI-generated code contains 322% more security vulnerabilities.

45% of all AI-generated code has exploitable flaws.

Junior developers using AI cause damage 4x faster than without it.

70% of hiring managers trust AI output more than junior developer code.

AI in a nutshell

“Not paying for a product you exploit to sell your product is theft; not paying for labour you employ is slavery. If your business model is theft and slavery, you’re not an industry. You’re a pirate.”
You’ll have to outsource the verification to Taskrabbit

Like ChatGPT did…

Day 3 of vibe programming with ChatGPT

And they're throttling our only chance (legislation) to do anything about it
True,

If we define success purely in terms of power and order, whilst disregarding all considerations of ethics and human well being,
Stalinism was one of the most successful political systems ever devised

What weightings does AI give to ethics and human well-being?
OpenAI will argue that "They are just giving the customer what they want", "If they didn't like it, they wouldn't use it"

The problem with "The customer is always right", is that it presupposes that the customer knows enough about the product to know what they are giving their blessing to

We don't

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.
The Daily Mail goes all-in on Farage

I’m intrigued to hear how they think it’s desperate and unfair to blame Farage for Brexit, and at the same time, think Brexit is going swimmingly but they will never tell us
VHS, DVDs, the Internet all owe their success to porn

It was inevitable
2010s and social media was all about controlling attention

2020s and AI will be a shift from attention to intimacy.

The Bible had a profound effect on billions of people, despite being a mute document- imagine a new AI Holy Book that can talk and listen, and knows our fears and thoughts?
OpenAI’s strategy is very clear, it’s trying to get people - especially young people - so reliant on its products intellectually & emotionally (& now sexually!) that going without them becomes unthinkable. And they need signs of that strategy working to keep the funding flowing in
As Yuval Noah Harari points out in Nexus, human politics in now also computer politics
At present, we are in a political deadlock about climate change, partly because the computers are at a deadlock. Calculations run on one set of computers warn us of an imminent ecological catastrophe, but another set of computers prompts us to watch videos that cast doubt on those warnings.
Which set of computers should we believe?
Sure,

Weird how different the reaction to migrants talking out jobs is compared to when AI is taking them
don't worry, Sam Altman is confident that his efforts to eliminate vast numbers of jobs will all just sort of work out for the unemployed, eventually, possibly after they starve to death, which is technically a form of having it work out

Sam Altman Says If Jobs Gets Wiped Out, Maybe They Weren't Even "Real Work" to Start With
Worried that AI will destroy work? Well, Sam Altman asks if you've considered what a farmer from half a century ago thinks of your job, first.
