We need to flood EPA with comments opposing their inane proposal to eliminate reporting requirements for Greenhouse Gases. Most companies already track this information and eliminating the requirement will only deprive the public of critical information. It only takes a minute!

Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

It's also needless because Congress would easily pass a troop pay bill if Johnson were willing to gavel in.

Long thread.

It’s almost as though these competitively awarded grants in a highly oversubscribed program were selected on the basis of merit and need, not politics or ideology. But that was in the olden times of (checks watch) less than a year ago.
Before catastrophic floods swept through the Alaska Native village of Kipnuk on Sunday, the EPA canceled a $20 million grant intended to protect the community from extreme flooding. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/14/c...

Great news: The EPA is withdrawing its proposal to delay the implementation of hazardous air pollutant standards for coke ovens. Very good news for breathers in steel communities. It's nice to win! www.epa.gov/system/files...

Great article!

California is not actually off coal, though. It still has 8 coal-fired facilities left in the state: our cement plants. Don't forget about those!
My mistake. That makes more sense, as Chevron Richmond ("el primero") makes a ton of jet fuel, too.
Do you think the plant that makes 40% of California's Jet A would close under any circumstances?
This definitely feels like a problem that is set to get worse.

It's not restricted to refineries with declining financials, though. Here's the newest, fanciest integrated chemical plant in America catching on fire and releasing known carcinogens a couple months ago:

Is it just me or do refineries and chemical plants explode on the regular? This feels like something we should talk about more.

Vacant units come up a lot in discussions around the housing crisis

This is a good opportunity to go over what the data actually shows 🧵
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Keep your dishonest framing to yourself.

Klein’s housing policy fails to address the fundamental cause of this housing crisis.

In the US, there are currently 15mil vacant homes. There are ~650,000 homeless.

While much focus has been on the US/EU, and companies' weakening commitments to clean steel, there have been some exciting developments on the clean steel front that are worth highlighting. TL;DR: The transition to green steel is underway, yet it remains overlooked. A quick thread...

To put this loan amount in perspective:

California is spending $500 million to widen a 10-mile stretch of Highway 37 in the northern Bay Area (through a wetland, no less).

But $750 million to save the *entire* Bay Area’s transit systems is apparently infeasible.
We’ve been informed by the Governor’s Department of Finance that it won’t agree before our legislative session ends (on Friday) to finalize a $750M bridge loan to Bay Area transit.

This loan was agreed to in our June budget. Without it, BART, Muni, et al will cut service.🧵
