Why does she specifically love guitar cases so much lol
If you travelled a year back in time and asked 2024 me to guess why, on October 16 2025, present me said “I really wish there was a whistle emoji,” I could not have arrived at the right answer in a hundred tries
Mamdani has definitely shifted some of his rhetoric in recent months, but I also think that mainstream media and organs of the ruling class have come to terms with his inevitable victory and have now pivoted from "he's a scary radical" to "actually he's not radical so no one can say we took an L"
Absolutely wild headline for what was pure kayfabe.
“I just want to speak directly to the president."

Spooky season in our neighborhood already going hard
Seems we have at least one vote of approval for the new red line bench design

"All I dream of is for this war to end so I can swim again"

From our correspondent in Gaza, a short profile of Zain, a fourteen-year-old boy who spends his days selling vitamins on the street to help his mother feed his family and dreams of resuming his education and his training at the local pool
Once a Swimmer, Now a Survivor: A Teenager’s Life in War-Torn Gaza
Israel’s genocide has forced fourteen-year-old Zain Abbas out of his home and school—but he still holds onto hope for a better future.

The Broadway upzoning passes the land use commission 15-2. Loud cheers break out
Also a lot of them aren’t actually near Broadway lol?? Like I’ve seen them west of Clark, just purely signaling ownership-class solidarity at that point
I started doing ICE watch shifts last week and it's honestly been an incredible thing to see members of the community come together to make it just a bit less perilous for folks to go to school or church or whatnot. You don't have to have any special skills to help keep people safe
Thinking about how much of their violence has been normalized already, how scenes that caused shockwaves 6 weeks ago are now part of the rhythm of daily life. Watched a TikTok from a daughter who has to do her parents' laundry & get their groceries because they're in hiding. This is just it now

@balupuppy.bsky.social the 48th ward office has whistles and signs but you can also get them in small businesses in the 48th like Chicago Dance Supply, Understudy, Gethsemane and Loaves and Witches. Here’s us today on Ridge and Clark passing them out
I am actually blown away at how insanely irresponsible and also totally unnecessary this was to publish??? Like what on earth happened here
Wouldn't say I did this in my capacity as an editor so much as out of a general sense of self-preservation, but ❤️❤️❤️❤️

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

HAPPENING NOW — This morning, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order establishing “ICE-free zones.”

“That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as grounds for these raids,” Johnson said to applause.

Has there been reporting about a Charlie Kirk connection here? It's not mentioned in the Post story or the ABC coverage

Quick look at the Uptown-Edgewater July Red Line station ridership. Lawrence and Berwyn returned to service on 07/20 while Argyle and Bryn Mawr moved into their new stations.
Today in Google death rattle: tried to find a female editor’s review of a male journalist’s book by searching their names together, and the AI summary informed me that my query was likely the “result of a misunderstanding,” as the male journalist is in fact married to a different woman
