we should still be treating them humanely even while we minimize the harm they cause.

Also accessible housing, food, medical care and medication management will go a long way to reducing crime.

People just need to give up the belief that punishment and incarceration deter crime. They don’t.

Reeducation, vocational and re-integration planning. TRAUMA INFORMED EVERYTHING. Seriously. 90% ish of crime is driven from a place of abuse-deprivation-trauma-lack of resources. There is a small sliver of true evil asshats that likely need to be safely segregated BUT …

invest in treatment court and drug court options and create emergency response mental health teams that are an alternative to police arriving to every 911 call. Push in maximal mental, physical and educational services into any “carceral” system.

Having worked criminal justice adjacent for 20 years (until I finally burned out) I endorse this 1000% Take money away from lunatics measures and invest in robust community mental and physical health clinics, remove barriers to medication and non medication treatment options

Punitive is pointless. You can't unmake the past with a slap on the wrist. Rehabilitation, as often as possible, as much as possible--that's what I think will help society. To prevent further harm. 4/?
