ghost story

this isn’t some mcdonald’s ice-cream-maker thing.
you haunt me—past tense, plural,
all the ways, adverbial.
which is to say: frequently.

a measure of light,
the hollow inside a vessel,
an organ.
brightness as body cavity,
a unit of survival.

you circle me, unafraid,
piranhas for toes in the deep-dark deep—
something that glows,
something that lingers,
something that devours.
