Word to the wise: do not fly internationally into Logan. All of the major public detainments of Legal Residents and Citizens at airports have been out of Logan.

Anyone in Boston an immigration lawyer or know one who can help this woman? Her husband is detained at Logan over a dismissed misdemeanor from 2017. He’s a legal resident of the US. She just asked for help an hour ago.

The politics of entitlement in a nutshell: MAGA "conservatives" seem to have forgotten that for every right, there's a corresponding responsibility.
dieworkwear.bsky.social
It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

Canada has a long history of being surprisingly provincial. However, relinquishing digital sovereignty without a fight represents a strategic misstep in the broader project of nation-building, as technological autonomy increasingly shapes economic security, cultural identity, & political legitimacy.

Hi @pfrazee.com, has anyone else noticed this problem with "Search Posts"? The search is not returning recent posts in the search results. But the posts are clearly there. I first saw this little quirk about a week and a half ago.

Anyone else notice a problem with Bluesky's "Search posts" feature for searching individual accounts?

It's not returning posts that match the search criteria if the posts in question are recent, such as within the previous 7 days. 🤔

Fights about digital filtering tools have turned more and more bitter. That's because of their extraordinary power to shape both political opinion and mass culture.

It's wild that we've reached a point where the President openly admits to firing people for political reasons, and his OMB director tweets about it like it's a victory. This is page one of the authoritarian playbook, happening in plain sight.

More than 15 million people 55 or older don’t have a spouse or biological children; nearly 2 million have no family members at all.

Who will be there for these solo agers as their lives draw to a close? How many of them will die alone?
An age-old fear grows more common: ‘I’m going to die alone’
As families fracture, people are living longer and are more likely to find themselves without close relatives or friends at the end of their lives.

Is Argentina now the new 51st state? Imagine taking healthcare away from American so they can help soybean farmers in Argentina.

China bought a quarter of Argentina's soybean crop on Sept. 23, 7 million metric tons. www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

🧵 1/ Some of you are wondering why people are saying a U.S. bailout of Argentina is also a bailout of its soybean farmers.

Move to the EU and your grandkids will stress over Russia. Stay in Canada and you’ll be side-eyeing the US. Head to Asia and they’ll be watching China’s every move. The future, gotta love it.

The impact of these intelligence operations are still with us today. The Soviet Operation Denver campaign spread false stories about the U.S. inventing HIV, and while it wasn’t about vaccines, it helped create broader distrust in science and public health that still fuels vaccine skepticism today.

Democratic leaders waiting for the midterms is our modern Waiting for Godot, a collective pause for change that may never come, while the present quietly unravels. By the time they arrive, what’s broken now may already be beyond repair, a ritual of hope in a moment that demands action.

This is why we fund scientists to study things like oyster slobber even if you don’t think it sounds important

⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.
