They feel like they're in a different category imo

like, if I *think* about it, yeah, of course they're musicals.

But when watching/remembering them, they're more "movies with musical numbers" than "musicals". Which I think is why when they're adapted for stage, they always add more songs.

Honestly I think you can boil down the state of the entire AAA industry to the following too-common beliefs:

1) Old games are bad because the point of software is new technology

2) New ideas are bad because the point of art is brand loyalty

3) Given 1+2 all games must combine old IP with new tech

I think we just got so used to 90's Disney movies, that we started to think of them as a separate "songs are occasional, not the main event" category.

Now that I think about it, I guess they are in fact musicals, even if they're not "almost no regular speaking" musicals. But I don't really feel it.

The obsession with remaking everything always goes back to making as much money as possible.

No customer wants to pay full price for an ancient game regardless of its artistic quality, so big companies would rather burry their own history rather than make slightly less money.
