Lots of new followers lately, mostly posting about #politics. I'm sure you're all lovely people, but I don't want a feed full of politics. So please don't be offended if I don't follow back.

The stone steps outside Heaton Park Hall
A black and white photo of Heaton Park Hall.
An old grand building with stone steps with bronze sculptures of two lions either side, a lioness on the left and a lion on the right that appear to be watching each other.
The hall has tall stone columns and decorative stonework above the grand windows.

On a dark cold night, I light painted the beach huts on Maldon Prom. 30 second exposure on a Nikon Z5 using a light tube to paint the subject with white light. 💡

Strangest sunset I’ve ever seen. Even the hotel owner came out to take pics as she’d never seen anything like it either. I know I usually tinker with saturation etc but this was as it was taken
Row of sunbeds looking out to a pink sea under a pink sky. There is a small boat sailing past

The Rose Staircase in Babelsberg Park Potsdam, an enchanting place.

The Rosentreppe, or rose staircase, in Babelsberg Park, Potsdam, is a historic garden feature created during the 19th-century development of the park for Crown Prince William (later Emperor William I) and his wife Augusta.

Initially, the park was designed by garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné, but after some conflicts and slow progress due to limited funds and challenging soil, the project was taken over in 1843 by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau.

A signature design element added by Pückler-Muskau was the Goldene Rosentreppe, an ornamental staircase set above the palace’s pleasure ground. With its steps lined by trellises planted with red and white roses, this staircase created a dramatic, scented connection from the palace terraces down toward the Havel’s lakeshore, blending striking architectural style with lush horticultural beauty.

The Rosentreppe stands out as a symbol of the park’s romantic landscape design, combining picturesque pathways, elaborate plantings, and functional links between different areas of the grounds. Over the years, the entire park, including the Rosentreppe, was expanded, neglected during periods such as the GDR era, and then carefully restored after German reunification. Today, it remains a distinctive and much-loved highlight in Babelsberg Park’s layered historical scenery.

An #artnouveau door from famous Belgian architect Gustave Strauven - the colour is not the original one and I am not sure I like it, but it definitely makes this door stand out!

The image shows an ornate pink door set within a brick and stone building facade. The door features a decorative metal design over a dark window and is topped with a mural-like panel, typical of the Art Nouveau period. A number "44" is visible on the left side of the door frame.

I found a nearby happy place to spend my days on walks close to me. When I can't travel. Funds are hard to come by with the shutdown playing havoc with my "support" from my ex. So nearby is good. #shutdownsux

Just completed the editing of images from trip to Lake District. I understand why Alfred Wainright had no desire to travel abroad. A view of #GrassmereLake as autumn takes hold.

This is a view across Grassmere Lake. The hotel in the distance reflected in the water. The trees on the hill behind, acquiring the colours of autumn.
I love Ryokan's poems. Whenever I travel I take a book of them with me. 🙂🙏
