Chasing the shiny bits in the dark. Punishing my legs for not being rocket packs. Passionate about density, transit, walkability, and cycling infrastructure. Recovered “avid cyclist”. Big YIMBY. Capitol Hill but I’m not cool and only have one tattoo.

It was never going to change the world.

There were just a bunch of business idiots circle jerking each other off and tech journalists putting their fingers up the business idiots’ butts.

The use of AI to marionette a woman whose tortured existence was spent trying to carve her own life and identity out of the space men forced her into is both damningly macabre and a surprisingly perfect encapsulation of the problems with this ghoulish use of technology.

Men put trillions of dollars into creating technology that can steal any woman’s likeness so they can jerk off to her before going to therapy.

What does it say about Biden’s electability?

We’ve moved from “this technology being embraced by porn means it will succeed” to “this technology embracing porn means it is on its death bed”.

Wild what a decade of abundant free porn does.

Sam Altman went from “AI will cure cancer" to "ChatGPT porn" in less than a month
ChatGPT boss predicts when AI could cure cancer We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

I really enjoyed last month’s featured article, “How to Lie About Trees to Keep Dirty Renters Out of Your Neighborhood”

Protein powders are a scam. Most Americans get plenty of protein, so unless you’re an athlete, you don’t need protein powder.

Regardless of how many 20-somethings on TikTok with great abs and sponsor deals try and sell it to you.

You are correct that the tariffs are dumb and counterproductive, and they certainly don’t help people on the production side of coffee, but your meme helps to advance the narrative that coffee should be abundantly available.

It’s a luxury good that has been artificially made affordable.
paulrusof.bsky.social
Worth noting that coffee as an everyday thing for most people is a manifestation of exploitative labor and environmentally destructive farming in the 20th century.

Coffee is labor intensive to grow and harvest, and can only be farmed at limited latitudes and altitudes.

It should be expensive.

I remember hearing an interview with Harari back when Sapiens was doing the social media rounds and honestly, the dude sounded like a not very intelligent sophomore in college trying to sound smart.

I turned off the interview after like 20 minutes and lost any interest in reading Sapiens.

…going for, but the fact that they’re going for the largest operational rocket ever that is also totally reusable is incredible. And they’ve already done some amazing things in the Booster/Starship program (like catching a building-sized booster on the launch tower after it returned from space).
paulrusof.bsky.social
Certainly a debate can be had over whether orbital rockets should be operated by private companies or governments, but the world that Obama signed into existence is one that puts a lot of weight on private companies.

I still don’t think Starship will achieve the degree of reusability they’re…

Elon Musk is a Nazi and SpaceX does incredible work. Both of those things can be true simultaneously.

Both this and the previous test flight were completely successful, and we saw nary a peep on social media.

It’s worth remembering how much social media distorts things.

Yer boy is lying, Seattle Times.

L-Y-I-N-G. Lying.

Try saying it. It’s not hard.

Oh you’re right. Well damn, I suppose White male actors who get cast in 1990s scifi all kinda look the same.

Yeah, I have no idea!

This is like 5 degrees off from Tony Soprano talking about what he’s going to do to a snitch once they find them.

Two years ago I got to spend a couple of weeks in Coastal Maine at this time of year and holy moly I have never wanted to wear a cozy sweater and sip hot apple cider walking around more in my life.
