I've moved here from X, where I had the same username and liked to discuss books, movies, ephemera, 1970s nostalgia, folklore, folk horror and, when their bullpen wasn't melting down, the Phillies. Hope to eventually find all those great people from X here.
And we know PTA loved Altman's Popeye.
This is amazeballs. Buddy Kennedy started the year as odd man out with the Phillies and is now guaranteed a World Series ring.

Also, if the Jays win, Spencer Turnbull gets one, too.
Buddy Kennedy played in 13 games in 2025, batted .069. 2 of the games were as a Blue Jay and 7 were as a Dodger - collecting 1 hit with each club.

Congrats to World Series Champion Buddy Kennedy!

in a way, hasn't this entire country turned out to have a metaphorical secret nazi tattoo that a lot of us weren't really aware of?

Might be telling that the two stand-out chase scenes of the year both involve a younger generation finally stepping up to do something about the evil that the society around them has failed to do anything about.
How about Aubrey Plaza as the new Freddy Krueger?

Just one objection -- I'll get skewered by some, but Phillies absolutely need Walker in 2026. He's not a salary dump. Opening Day rotation barring a very unlikely Ranger Suarez resigning is: Sanchez, Luzardo, Nola, Walker, tba free agent. ... Then you hope for Wheeler return and eventually Painter

I completely forgot my obligation to include a possible Mike Trout trade into the Nick Castellanos situation for the Phillies. At $37m per season, um, no. How much would the Angels need to pay down to have you interested?

One doesn’t simply…trade Nick Castellanos

It will be amusing though when a team gets caught hiring a hacker to infiltrate the league's AI and change the settings.
That's my worry. This team is absolutely built around pitching. Changing the everyday catcher invites problems. ... I guess an analogy is: look at the Eagles with this year's offensive line and the trickle-down problems.
I've slept on a futon on my floor since 2015. When they wear out, they cost $79 to replace.
The AWS outage bricked people's $2,700 smartbeds, leaving them in a reclining position or with the heat up. People were unable to use them, basically. A GitHub repo exists that lets people operate their beds without reliance on the normal infrastructure

The AWS Outage Bricked People’s $2,700 Smartbeds
When Amazon Web Services went offline, people lost control of their cloud-connected smart beds, getting stuck in reclined positions or roasting with the heat turned all the way up.

I guess the question we don't 100% know the answer to is whether he can play 130 games at third base. Outfield looks like a stretch. If he's 1B only the utility diminishes greatly
There's likely in excess of 1 exabyte (1,000,000,000 gigabytes) of digital data about people's personal lives over the past 20 years that Facebook is sitting on and that would not die alongside Meta in any conventional disincorporation.
I'd be curious what the Dodgers' numbers were in October 2024, when it seems (am I wrong?) like they just bullpened every game and streamrolled everyone then too.
SAME! (except for the Hannukah part) ... I have wonderful memories of watching Emergency! with my mom and it was a big part of my childhood. She passed in 2017, but the connecting from my childhood to One Battle After Another via Tighe is indeed mindblowing.
Oh Lord, memories. I had that black NL champs shirt for a good while before I wore it out.

This is the White House East Wing. Torn down today to create a ballroom.

The East Wing contained the "Family Theater" - the White House cinema, which saw generations of Presidents and families enjoying films there. Jimmy Carter watched 480 movies there. Bush redecorated it Movie Theater Red.
Just got an email from Criterion that there's a 50% flash sale for 24 hours starting at noon tomorrow.
Left a comment on the post. If we're going to consider sunk-cost swaps, may as well go crazy and consider the nuttiest of them all.

Honestly don't care, but I guess slight lean toward Dodgers: (1) reinforces that Phillies are #2 team in MLB, (2) maybe the Dodgers are complacent next October, rather than being a pissed-off team on a mission.
They insta-books for this are ALL bonkers bsky.app/profile/did:...
The One Battle After Another insta-books on Amazon are something else. By which I mean something else from the movie, which you should see.
Mostly agree here. It was a super-tough decision on Ohtani vs. Duran, either way. Ultimately, you have to face the best to be the best.
Walking Springer in that situation is stupid. Phillies tried something similar and it cost them their series vs the Dodgers. You don’t put the winning run on and you don’t IBB the bases loaded.
