eventually it got to the point where every time he showed up he would get chased around and yelled at so much that he started actually running to the cops for safety and hiding behind their lines. from there he started turning his footage over to them directly because he was so resentful

former marine biologist here, cephalopod intelligence does vary a lot. squid are smart but i always think of it as "coyote intelligence" - they're smart in a very specific, focused, predatory way. the larger octopus are basically human toddlers and will probably be sapient in a few eons

the nypd is a paramilitary org that considers itself to be an unaccountable global counterterrorism unit rather than municipal servants. they operate a network of black sites and have no problem just killing/disappearing people, like the friends and family members of inconvenient politicians
