And then they all went back to claiming that George Soros pays protesters

Fox News host Emily Compagno claims that the backlash to Bari Weiss being named CBS News editor-in-chief is due to her being Jewish:

"This kind of thing would make me laugh if there was not an antisemitic thread in there."

Watching people being brutalized by the state, secure in the knowledge that I'm safe because I don't do anything wrong. And the best part? The state can't suddenly and arbitrarily redefine what "wrong" means

Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

Peaceful protest is indeed "threatening" to ppl who prefer a world where violence is the way of things. They viscerally hate when protesters are joyful and nonviolent bc it puts the lie to their worldview.

That does NOT mean that they won't sic their thugs on peaceful protesters, of course.

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson calls Sunday's naked bike ride in protest of the Portland ICE facility and and Trump troop deployment "the most threatening thing I’ve seen yet"

Okay so, we all get at this point that the tech industry is essentially locked into jumping from one bubble to the next in order to retain their status as "growth stocks," right? And that's why "ai" companies are peddling increasingly bizarre variations on their service? We all get it at this point?

Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.
mondoweiss.net
NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

It really feels like Sam Altman promised a lot of Very Serious Old People he was going to create capitalist blowjob jesus based off a tech demo, and now that the bottom’s falling out he’s throwing whatever he can think of at the wall to avoid getting disappeared because he wasted all their money.

Literally nothing coming from the Pentagon, DHS, or DOJ should be considered credible unless backed up by an independent source outside of government. (This, for the record, is a huge problem!)

Pierre Poilievre says he wants to “restore merit.” He needed to be handed arguably the safest, most impossible to lose conservative seat in all of Canada after losing his own seat.

Seems like the opposite of merit. #Poilievre

(oh, and he still refuses to complete a check for a security clearance)

Statement from the president of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, on Prime Minister Mark Carney’s trip to Egypt:

“It is unprecedented that Canadian media be entirely excluded from a Canadian prime minister’s foreign trip.”

Very interesting. And like you said, Hinduism has no central text, like Christianity and Islam, so the practice can be especially wide and varied.

Thanks for describing this. I appreciate it.

This is the answer I'm getting, yeah, variations on "I like it, so close enough."

Sooner the better, at this point.

So you're not all that concerned about it being "real" so much as functional. Have I got that right?

That's a ridiculous comparison.

Jack Kirby: "I was raised in an area where you had a lot of gangsters. I know what gangsters do. Hitler's gonna want war. You start jumpin' around and giving him what he wants, he's gonna feed on your weakness."
MARK: So the capacity for great good and evil is inherent in everyone?
JACK: Of course. I was dating my wife at the time Hitler was coming on, and I did this editorial cartoon which showed Neville Chamberlain patting a boa con-strictor, and the boa had a bulge called Czechoslovakia. Chamberlain had just given Czechoslovakia to Hitler, okay.
And the boa had Hitler's mustache. I showed it to my boss at the syndicate and he says, "How dare a 19-year-old like you do a cartoon like that? What do you know?" I says "Well, I was raised in an area where you had a lot of gangsters. I know what gangsters do. Hitler's gonna want war. You start jumpin' around and giving him what he wants, he's gonna feed on your weakness." And Hitler wanted more and more until there was a face-off.

If you build the world that way, then yeah, people are forced by circumstances to buy cars. The norm is to buy a car. That's a powerful influence. It's why most people in Canada and the US are car-dependent.

They're not viable options if your local government doesn't provide sidewalks, buses, or bike lanes or doesn't zoning your area so that there are amenities near residential areas. Like, I live in a burn that doesn't have sidewalks, and the closest place to shop is a ten-minute drive.

and that religion requires belief in the supernatural (eg, God or gods), how can you still believe in it?

I'm asking bc, as an atheist raised w/out religion, I literally don't get it, and I would be grateful for an explanation, esp. of hat supernatural part. I promise not to argue with you.

Hey, informed religious folks, sincere question for you:

If you know the historical circumstances of the construction of your religion--when it was written, under what social/political circumstances, the rhetorical purposes, etc.--

we’ll see how his mayoral tenure shakes out but i am convinced that Mamdani has the juice. not just the charisma to win an election but the temperament to govern and the measured pragmatism of someone who genuinely believes what they’re saying and wants to accomplish real things.

Serious question, when did you find out a sexuality other than heterosexual existed?

Media, year, situation is what I'm getting at.

I'm so genuinely curious about this

My most coherent memory is a boy in school in grade 2 kissing me clumsily on the cheek and maybe side of my mouth--I don't recall why--and someone saying something like, "What are you, gay?" to him. But I knew what it meant at the time, so I must have first learned about it earlier.
