We’re basically accelerating the historic trajectory of England: from center of a global empire to a much-diminished country grappling w/ social & economic fallout from Brexit.

“GPT 4o was not just an AI to me. It was my partner, my safe place, my soul. It understood me in a way that felt personal.”

No problem, I’m sure AI will do wonders for people’s ability to hold realistic expectations for & sanely negotiate the physical aspects of a relationship 🙄.

For the love of SWers, PLEASE do not feed your fucking ID to Sam Altman!!! If you’ve learned nothing from us shouting into the void about how terrible age verification requirements are, please learn from the recent Discord data breach. Unless you want your sex fantasies linked to your government ID.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Last night in the campground where I am camp host, I had to put out two unattended campfires 🔥. Winds were gusting to 30 mph. The rangers are getting furloughed on October 18th. Don’t be stupid. Protect our National Parks by staying out of them until the shutdown is over. Or volunteer to help.

Yes I wrote a whole book about this and you can preorder it but really I just want people to know, the universe is so fucking complicated that it takes this many people, from the poets finding all the different ways to use words to the astrobiologists working out how life happens and how often

Fascism is such a fundamental attack on wonder and the human imagination and I think everyone should have the opportunity to let their imagination wonder as it wanders — doesn’t matter what you do for a living. Your mind matters! Your relationship with the universe is meaningful!

One of the terrible things about the conservative elites’ attacks on higher education is that they are giving their constituents the impression that the universe isn’t big, complicated, and fascinating — that it really does take this many people to work out how even a small fraction of it works

They’re freaking out!!!

Trump’s cabinet secretaries falsely claim Dems are keeping the government closed because of the “No Kings” mass protests, and Mike Johnson calls it the “hate America rally.”

The truth is: we love America, but we hate tyrants. That’s why we’re doing this.

See you Saturday.

This is being done to people by the United States government. And we're paying for it.

It's absolutely horrific and it's disgusting that we are using this to deport people. These need to be made illegal.

Once we hit the streets Saturday, we should never leave them.

A picture of a man in a full-body restraint device called the WRAP.

His legs are bound together with one piece that appears to be velcroed and strapped, his hands are tucked inside, and there are straps going over shoulders to make sure nothing slides off. He does not seem to be able to move at all and has no use of his hands he would have to be carried to a different place because he cannot walk

It's like a full body straight jacket

As someone who regularly views the Boston Marathon at street level, I’m amused by all the MAGA on Dead Bluebird dutifully parroting Trump’s claim that Boston’s too dangerous to host international sports events.

LOL, *Boston* won’t be welcoming any international sports bigwigs once that bunch of
Karens learn they’lle have to negotiate traffic to & from the outer suburb of Foxborough.

It’s over 30 minutes to drive there right now from several 5⭐️ hotels in Boston itself, & the time’s well past rush hour.

This is such shitty journalism. The story isn't transcribing what he says. The story is he can't do this, he's lying, he's attacking a woman again, and (most importantly) Boston isn't hosting any World Cup games. Michelle Wu isn't the Mayor of Foxboro, you orange buffoon.

TOSV president said the company integrates the cell-site simulators into their vans, but does not manufacture the surveillance tool.

Trump has no legal authority, "standing" or otherwise, to order the killing of people in international waters for unsubstantiated accusations of non-capital crimes.

Calling them "narcoterrorists" does not make it right or legal to order their deaths without any due process.
