If Labour had won the 1970 General Election, there is an argument Tony Benn would have led the Concorde sales team, and as a passionate defender of the aircraft who understood its market (it was built in his constituency), he could have succeeded where Heseltine messed up.

You could argue with his scheming to damage various leaderships in the 80s and 90s, he is just as guilty as destroying the Tories as any other person in that party.

Being pro-EU does not absolve his responsibility for his historic failures.

Tbf it should be remembered that Heseltine was absolutely useless at selling Concorde (not to mention the Westland Affair too).

He should not really be considered a grandee of that party when he left a wake of consistent failure behind him.

Like, right now we have a Prime Minister who cannot even pass their own welfare bill (rightly or wrongly) with a massive majority, which just shouts incompetence.

And lack of strong government usually leads to chaos :c

Hm partially agree. She got lucky on many occasions. Though I think there’s an argument to say if you’re capable of creating that much economic/constitutional change (for better or worse) then there must be some element of competence.

Same with Blair and Wilson.
